I currently pull my 5th wheel with a 2003 Dodge 3500 with an Access bed cover. I am looking for a tailgate step that will not interfere with the cover when it is closed. Currently, Bed Hopper and Kwik Gate acknowledge a problem with covers. I need one that will mount against the inside of the tailgate without affecting the top surface when the cover is closed.

Can anyone suggest one? I prefer not to use a hitch mounted step.

Thanks

Dick Whiteside

Have you considered the Bedstep? I've been looking into buying it for my Silverado 2500HD.

Bedstep is too expensive. The Bed Hopper will not work with my cover, first one, but the Step Gate, second one is in the running. For just a few dollars more it is available with the two step model and I definitely need the handle.

Thanks Hamops and crashpilot.

I have the Cabela's tail gate step. It should work for your situation as folds flat. There is only about a 1/8" thick lip that is on the top edge of the tail gate when it is closed.

If I remember my history lessons, doesn't FORD stand for Fix Or Repair Daily. (LOL) Thanks for the advise though.

Taviking22 how good is the quick release with the Step Gate?

Ferd might be the step solution - with a new set of problems, LOL!

No it's *NOT* - Fix Or Repair Daily!

Look out - here come the Ferd boys . . . . . .
(I was one of those once, or twice, or more - but NO more, thanks!)

Never liked those little girlie steps - I use a "Polar Bear"
brand step bar that inserts into the receiver hitch.
Adjustable for height and distance from the "real" bumper.
It's about 36" long - makes for an easy step up.
