I'm new to the RV world, just got me a 3 year old trailer to start my travels in. I wanted to do some weekend camping around Ohio before venturing into longer trips. Plus I'm working during the week with a lot of overtime. I've noticed that many of the campgrounds have a 2 or 3 PM check in and a 11 or 12 checkout. Some were had even later checkin times. Is there any way around this? Are there campgounds that have early checkins and later checkouts? I'd like to get to a campgrond early on a Saturday so I could enjoy the day and then not be rushed out on Sunday. Also, why do many campgrounds require 2 night stays?
Thanks

Fred just talk with the owners/management. I've never been denied a early arrival or late stay. Of course it depends on the type of campground and if the site may be reserved by someone coming in behind you. As far as the two night minimum, you'll run into that for weekends but not usually for stays during the week.

I agree with 4Kings. Just give them a call. We have never been denied access when arriving early. It usually comes down to space available. It no one is coming in they won't kick you out early. If they have an open spot for you, being early is not usually a problem.

As far as checkins go we always leave Friday evening and arrive late. That gives all day Saturday and most of Sunday. If you're renting Saturday there's probably no body in it Friday so I don't think and early checkin will be a problem. A late checkout depends on the things mentioned by 4kings. I've never had a problem but I've never wanted to stay till real late either. Just call the CG and ask they're usually really accomodating.

There is always the option of paying for Friday night and telling them you won't be there until very early on Saturday morning. Then get there early enjoy your day on Saturday and then ask for a late check out for Sunday; sometimes they will just charge you a few dollars per hour over providing the site is not reserved. I personally like the campgrounds that have check out at one or after and allow you to check in early if the site is available. I don't like to be rushed either.

As far as early check ins, we have never had a problem unless someone is late checking out. See the cycle?
And, the two night stay rule is just another way to make money. We try to stay away from those places when we hop around.

The two-night rule is purely economic. Campgrounds receive, what, 90%+ of their camping fees on Friday/Saturday? If you just book one of those nights, they can't find anyone else to book the other single night. They want every Friday and Saturday booked so that they don't go out of business.
You'll need to book Friday and Saturday. You can probably get away with a late check-out on Sunday, as the campground will likely be fairly empty on Sunday night (i.e. no one else will be moving into your spot).

This is why I like this forum so much. So many good answers and lots of useful info.
So I gather that that campgrounds are kinda like hotels. It never hurts to ask for what you need. I never thought to ask, really. After seeing so many campgrounds with late ins and outs I figured it was the standard for the industry.
As for doing a Friday - Saturday trip, I usually work until 10 or 11. After a 14 hour day I'd rather head out on a Sat morning. I'm just going to have to ask for an early in if possible. I can see why that might not happen but a later out time should be more doable.
We're headed off on out maiden voyage this weekend. We're heading to Tall Timbers campground in Port Clinton, OH. It's only an overnighter so I can get ready for the longer trip in 2 weeks to Bristol TN. Hopefully all goes well and I get the trailer figured out.
Thanks again

If I know we will be early or leave late I usually make arrangements when I am making reservations. This weekend we will need to be late leaving so I asked when I made reservations. There is a small charge but I don't mind for the extra convenience.
