We are having the big debate on size. Advice is to go bigger. We will be camping in state parks and national parks and are aware of some having restrictions on length.

Does anyone know of a comprehensive list of camp sites that show size restrictions?

We are debating between a 29' and 33'.

Thanks!!

If you stay 33'-34' and under you shouldn't have a problem anywhere.

As far as size restrictions go, the park websites will let you know that. However they are frequently on the conservative side. Today we were at Glen Haven State Park in NY. They say that 35' is the maximum. We drove through and saw plenty of room for our 40 footer. In 2 years of full timing, we have never been turned away from any state or national parks.

I think the size of the Class A you want should depend on how you intend to use it. If you are going to drive to a park and camp for a while you want something large enough for your family to be comfortable inside for an extended stay. Bigger is generally more comfortable.

If you are into road trips, longer is generally more comfortable.

There are very few Class A motorhomes in the 29 to 33ft length. If you are dead set on those parameters, your choices are going to be slim.

Go to the state and national park websites, and you'll often find the restrictions listed, sometimes by individual site #. In my own expereience, I never had any trouble at 29' and at 31', there have only been a few problems. I notice, though, that quite a few public parks begin restricting the length of rigs over 31'.

We have a 41' and before that we had a 38' and not once have we been turned away from any Provincial, State or Federal CG because of length. Most will have a few sites that we can't use, but all have had sites we could use. Sure there may be a CG or two that have nothing but small sites but they are very few and far between, so do not let site size restrict your choice.

It really depends on the park. I've seen sites listed for 30' that I would even attempt to get into. Then I've seen sites that said for 30' that you could have gotten a 40'er in with room. I wouldn't let sway me either way. (though I'd personally go bigger ) and really 4' ain't that big a difference especially in the range you're looking at.

Unfortunately there is no overall list... it will take some research. You will be o.k. in most if not all of the National Parks. The ones that I have seen with a limit is 35 Ft. California state parks seem to have the most restrictions... I've seen several with 24 ft max. I would make a list of 6 CA state parks you know you will want to visit and the go to the Ca state park web-site. Find your stste park on the list and click on it. One thing I have found on the park's web-site is that its not clearly noted (restrictions) on their main page. On the left side of the page, click on Brochure and you will find the information you are looking for there. Good Luck.

We have never had a problem with size in almost 40 yrs. of RVing. On some occasion we may have had to take a different site but we have never been out on the street. I have found greater problems getting 50 amp sites at some places. I can get along fine with 30 amp but I hate having to remove that adapter.

Our favorite state park has only one site listed for 40' MH's. We had a great time there in our 17' type B MH we had from '88 to '97.

Hey neighbor!,
I live in TO and have a 32' A class. Before we bought we checked out the state grounds local to us and found some stated a 32' max. With our rig we can fit into about 20% of the spots at Sicamore and Leo Carillo. When you go just go around and make a list which ones you like and save for next time(We put them in a old style address book). BOOK EARLY they fill fast.
A few years ago I found a list on a state website somewhere that gave info of Calif. parks and Max. lengths were included, some with a 32' max.

Hope this helps, you feel free to PM us if we can be of any further help.
