When I push the button to send the cable signal to my TV I get a snowy picture until I push it three or four times to make a good connection. Same thing for VCR and ANT.

Is there a way to clean the contacts?

Does someone make a better switch box that I can replace this one with?

Thanks,

There are any number of good video switchers on the market. I would choose an electronic one over a mechanical switcher for the very reason you are replacing your old one. You need one with enough inputs for all of the video sources (VCR, DVD, Antenna, Cable, Satellite, etc.) six should be adequate. It also needs enough outputs for all TV's plus any recording equipment such as a DVD recorder, VCR (if you still use one). Any good electronics store will have an assortment. Make a list of all your video sources and equipment before going to the store. They will show you what you need. Inputs may be coax, component video, composite video, HDMI, or others. If you have the instruction manuals for the TV's and recording equipment, bring them. They will have diagrams of the input information.

You may have already checked all this but I will throw it out there anyway...

Have you check to make sure the cable lines on the back were tight. Sometimes if they are not tight, but still screwed on, you can get a bad contact until you push the button a few times and that jiggles the unite enough to change the connection of the cable. I had that once and when I snugged them all with a wrench, the problems went away.

Yes I checked them for tightness. I have had the same problem in the stick house before and that was the problem.

I would like to find an electronic switch box, but have not been able to find one yet.

Take the box out. Take the cover off. Spray the switches with contact cleaner and push them all a bunch of times. Spray again and repeat. Odds are it will work fine for another couple of years.

I don't normally recommend Radio Shack, but they have some good contact cleaner. Radio Shack Percision Electronics Cleaner.

I have used Caig DeoxIT on my ham radio gear for many years with excellent results. A bit pricey but worth every penny.

I second the motion for Caig Deoxit. It is amazing stuff. It not only cleans contacts but protects against future corrosion. Extremely effective, even on corroded contacts. Although it is expensive, you only use a tiny bit on each job. One can may last you a lifetime. Well worth its premium price.
