Yes, gas is cheap compared to the cost of a motor replacement part that Jayco no longer has...My Granite Ridge is 3 years old and now the motor for my electric step is no longer available from Jayco? That's rediculous...My dealer wants over $400 for the parts plus labor to rebuild the motor...Somethings wrong here...Any suggestions? The snow man...

The beatiful MONSTER that takes my wife and I anywhere we want to go...2005 Jayco granite ridge...Overhead entertainment center, slide out, and a snowmobile trailer that pulls 2 four wheelers in the summer and 2 snowmobiles in the winter..Life is great!

Turn it into a manual step and take the $400 and put it all on 'red.' (If you win I get half!)...................

Have you called the manufacture of the step, they might just have a replace motor and drive unit. I've found dealing with the manufacture is often not all that bad and most are more then happy to send you the parts. Bill.

I second Bill's advice.

If you have a Kwikee step, take the motor off and take it to an AutoZone. It's the same motor as used by some car windows. Awhile back there was a great thread on replacing the motor yourself. Here's the link to it. Link

I can't understand why you are blaming Jayco for being unable to stock motors for your electric steps? Since if your unit was new, you would have had to contact Kwikee for repairs, not Jayco! Same with your awning, you'd have to contact Carefree for repair, and Atwood for the oven, Norcold for the refrigerator, Ford for the trasmission, etc. Now if the slide out leaked, Jayco would have fixed it for free.

Have you tryed calling the folks who made your electric steps? Sometimes they'll send you the part for free, or maybe it's still under warranty? They have a 2 year warranty, but if you go to their website, there are some replacement kits for motors that were not powerful enough for that model. There are some recalls also listed.

When you say "something is wrong here", it is! Your dealer is trying to pick your pocket.

I would agree with the above posts, go to the Mfg of the step, and if that doesn't work, have the motor looked at by a motor shop, the Mfg of the step didn't make the motor, they like most all other equipment Mfg, buy most of the parts and install them in there stuff.
It may be made by GE or Franklin on one of a hundred other motor makers. It also may have something very simple wrong with it.
A good RV repair shop would find out why the motor doesn't operate, and tell you, not just tell you, you need a new one and we cant get it. Look for another repair shop.
No body wants to, or knows how to, fix anything anymore, its replace every thing now days.
You need a good old fashioned, true repairman that can fix almost anything.

They are not all the same over the years Kwikee has changed the motor and control units. At least since 1999 to present they have used 5 different motors.

The same thing happened on our 2006 Bounder. The quickee steps would not operate. They had been worked on twice before, both times when the unit was still under Manufactury warranty. The second time, they replaced the motor. The last time, about two weeks ago, it went out again. I took it to CW for repairs. The mechanic said that it was not the motor but the housing was not lined up correctly. He said he could repair it but it would not hold for long. They contacted my Insurance co who refused to pay for the repairs. CW argued with them,on my behalf and back and forth, for about a hour before the ins co reluctantly aggred to replace the whole step with a completly new one.I had one of the Air Conditioners repaired at the same time. The Ins covered all but the $50 deductable. This is one time I have to disagree with people who say the INS is worthless.( A completly new step was only $40 more than the repair would have been. CW agreed to eat the extra $40 labor.)
