We just bought a used Brake Buddy. The person we bought it from said we should set the sensitivity up around 6 or 7. I have since talked with a friend of mine that also has one and he advised me to keep the setting at 3 now I'm really confused LOL. Since I have never owned one before can I get some advice as to what is the normal setting. We are towing a pretty light toad it's a 1998 Saturn.

Thanks in advance for any help

We tow a Chevy HHR. I keep the setting on 4.
If it's raining out, I set it to 3. Never had a problem.

The manual says to set it at 4 and then watch to see when the unit initiates a braking motion. I ended up setting mine at three as well.

Works great.

Mine is also set at 3. 99% of the time all I need to stop is the motor home brakes, at 3 if I hit the brakes hard the towed brakes will engage. Higher and it brakes any time I brake the motor home.

Here's an easy way to audit the braking effect and calibration for your Brake Buddy:
Put it in your motorhome on the floor by the drivers compartment. Plug it in and take off on your travel. Try the different settings as you drive normally and normal braking. Find the setting you feel is best for you and meets your driving habits. Then reinstall it in your toad with that setting.
My setting is 3 and 40 lbs. Thats causes it to engage only under some pretty hard braking. My previous MH was a gasser and I had it set to 4 to come on a little sooner to help with the braking more often and under less hard braking.

We towed a 2001 Cavalier, using sensitivity 4 and 40lbs. Our car weight 2800 lbs. Brake Buddy has an excellent customer service and if you don't have any info on settings, I am sure they will help you out. The manual shows the settings by the actual weight of the toad. The aux. braking doesn't actually stop the car unless you press down hard on the motorhome brakes (panic stops).. then the alert light comes on in the motorhome (which is plugged into a 12volt outlet). Caution: Don't forget to "test" the Brake Buddy 4 or 5 times BEFORE pulling out.

I find that 2 and 38 lbs works best for my set up. Towing an ION.

I only want my BB to come on under moderately severe conditions, I don't want it to be stopping the motorhome. I think 3 is closer to what you want than 7.
