Hi

I'm wanting to attach my magnetic XM antennae to the top of my RV, but have discovered that there are no pieces of metal to attach it to.

I was thinking of finding a small piece of stainless steel and gluing it on to the roof and affixing the antennae to that. (I am then going to run the wire down through one of the roof vents.)

What type of adhesive would you recommend for doing this? My MH has a TPO roof.

Thanks

Martin

3M 5200. Just make sure you will never, ever want to remove the antenna. There is no need to do anything other than put the 5200 on the antenna and position it on the roof.

You can also use some other 3M 52xx stuff that will let go if and when you want it to.

If you have a ladder on your MH you could also look at a mirror mount antenna at a truck stop for road tractors. You could mount the antenna on the back on your ladder.

No need to put it on the exterior/roof if you have a rubber or fiberglass roof. In our TT, I placed the antenna in the top of one of the cabinets. In our current MH, I have the antenna placed inside under the front roof cap. Good reception in both situations and no holes or outside wires to contend with.

Umm.. you might want to test the stainless to see if a magnet will stick to it. There are many grades of stainless and not all are magnetic.

As I recall, stainless steel won't work with a magnet. Test it first

I used to work with various grades of stainless. Even though some grades are magnetic, they are no where neer the holding power you would get out of regular steel. You might as well just glue the antenna itself with the 3M 5200 and skip the plate, or buy a different antenna.

I use the antenna from my home kit on the trailer. You can drill holes in the base to mount it to any surface using any existing screws you might have on the exterior. The antenna has an adjustable hinge so you can mount it on the side.

same here. I put mine on the dash when traveling and it works great. Once set up I can position wherever I need to.
