Nobody ever mentions that Alaska is served by 6 refineries and is basically self sufficient when it comes to vehicle & aviation fuels, so there is no large shipping charges. Here is a list of the refineries and their output.

Kenai Refinery (Tesoro), Kenai, Alaska 72,000 bbl/d
Valdez Refinery (Petro Star), Valdez, Alaska 50,000 bbl/d
North Pole Refinery (Petro Star), North Pole, Alaska 17,000 bbl/d
Kuparuk Refinery (Conoco/Phillips), Kuparuk, Alaska 14,400 bbl/d
North Pole Refinery (Flint Hills Resources), North Pole, Alaska 210,000 bbl/d
Prudhoe Bay Refinery (BP), Prudhoe Bay, Alaska 12,500 bbl/d

Just read an article on www.azcentral.com that Mexico is getting upset with (and starting to fine) Americans because people are driving down there to get diesel where it is $2.25 per gallon.
