We are looking for a 5th wheel next year and we are going to get a new TV for it. We are looking at a 30' 5th and the GVWR is 8500 and pin is 1500. Dop you think if we got a F250 or a 2500 chevy or dodge will be sufficient. I do not want dieael since it will be a lease and i do not want to pay the extra money. I dont want something to big since i will be driving this everyday. Also need 4 doors and the biggest cab we can find need it for the family. Its not a brand war just what size and who has the biggest cabs.

Based on your vehicle criteria, I would highly recommend a smaller trailer.

Get a 3500. And Chevy has the strongest gas engine (you're gonna need it)6.0-liter, V8, 352-horsepower engine that gets fair mileage, achieves 14-mpg in the city and 19-mpg hwy. Crew cabs are all about the same, the Dodge Mega cab is supposed to be the biggest, but I believe Tundra actually is. And you'd be happier with a diesel.

Any of the 3/4 tons should pull 8500# just fine.
Most of the 1/2 tons could pull it as well, but the 1500# pin may hurt you here.
BTW, 8500# GVWR seems kind of light for a 30' 5er, 10,000# GVWR sounds closer to what I have encountered. The 1500# pin does seem correct for a 30' 5er, maybe even a little light.
Most 5ers I looked at that were 30' were in the 10,000# GVWR range, and had an advertized pin weight of 1800~2000lbs.

fordsooperdooty - I was thinking the same thing. I wouldn't be happy pulling that with my rig and the GCVWR is 12,000 lbs. I am towing 6000 with my 2500 (heavy duty, 1 ton chassis).

Already been down the 3/4 ton diesel road myself with our current 30' 5'er; don't waste yer time and money for heavy duty towing duties. Any of the Big 3 1 ton CC DRW diesel's will do ya fine. Pick the one ya like best and enjoy the pull; or buy a smaller low prifile 5'er. Towing a high profile multi slide 5'er with a 3/4 ton gasser or diesel is like going to a gunfight with a pocket knife. Your daily MPG with a 1 ton vs. a 3/4 ton will be negligable. You can pay the extra money for a diesel in yer payment, or at the pump for a gasser. Come trade-in or sell time, initial cost of the diesel is relative. Check with the dealer regarding damage to the bed of your lease truck from your hitch rail attachment so you're not surprised at turn in time.
Happy camping!!! See ya'll down the road!!!

The 5th wheels we are loking at are the superlights. There all around 8500lbs GVWR. They have the smaller fronts not as high as the nonsuperlights.

An F250 or 2500 will do the job just fine. It will come down to personal choice. Test drive each and make your decision. On the Ford side the 5.4L in the F250 will be a good match for an 8,500 GVWR TT mentioned by you. You'll have to choose between the 4.1 and 3.73 rear end. The 3.73 will give you 16,000# GCWR and the 4.10 will give you 18,500#. You will have to make the choice based on how much you will pull vs driving empty.

If it were me and I was going to be driving it everyday, I would get a used diesel (pre DPF). You can reap far better unloaded mileage than a gasser plus logetivity. If you have to gasser consider the 3500, while the diesel models often share some of the same components between 3/4 and 1 ton, the gas models actually have differences where that pin actually becomes a real factor. My fiver is 31' and it' pin is around 1500 on the scales at 9500 loaded. Depending on configuration and water tank location the pin will vary a lot.
That said, any of the hd trucks would do you right. I just feel that if you are looking for mileage, you are looking for pre 2007 turbo diesel. With a light pedal my personal return on mileage is unmatched by any gasser of it's era. If it has to be gas, do get that geared down GM and baby it!
