(1) Do you look at the links on the right hand side, of the google page, or only the ones in the center?

The ones on the right hand side are NEVER what you are really looking for. I don't even give them a second thought any more.

As for the one I pick, I scan thru what is said on each and click on the one that seems the best.

I use both. Depends which is more convenient at the time.
Sometimes the internet still lists businesses that are no longer in business. The Yellow book is updated yearly

YellowPages.com
Paper book takes way too long to search and it always outdated.
Besides number, address, map and web site you can find some recommendations on it as well.

Internet
Google

Rarely if ever do I use the links on the right. As to which link I choose, I look for those which give the actual web site of the individual/company. Can't remember when I've needed to go beyond the first page.

OK, would you try a low budget experiment.
Go to Google
Search for chiropractor Burien
Or chiropractor Burien WA 98166
Which listings would you click on? Name 3
Please do not click on the link as that is a charge every time that happens 3 to 5 dollars per click

First, I'd use the inet and google like nearly all above.
I'd also use Craigslist to find a local vendor or supplier, especially for contractors, painters, haulers, mechanics, small items I need to buy used, etc.

As to who I would click on your proposed search, I would probably click more than one, check their web page, then decide who to call 1st, and would likely call or email more than one and ask some questions. But it is a great way to find and sort thru the possible choices quickly. Much quicker than the phone book.

However, if it is big stuff, like medical or financial services, I would more likely try to find someone by referral, not just from an ad.
