I try to stop at Flying J for fuel whenever possible. I usually avoid the RV island due to the congestion and wait time. This summer I was able to pull into the Rv island every time without waiting. We travled from PA to Branson, Denver and St Paul for the FMCA convention on the way home. It was pretty evident that RV travel is way down this summer

We are fulltimers and were on the road from Dec.5 to June 15; FL, TX,3 months in MX, AZ, NV, CA, OR.WY.SD, MN, MI, OH and MD. Saw only two full CG's the whole 12,000 miles, Paa Mul and La Penita in MX, probably two of the most popular full season CG's of the trip. The only two places we had made reservations and 4 coaches traveling together. Other than that we never saw a CG more than 1/2 full.
Friends currently traveling in the Yukon report CG's and restaurants doing only 60% of last year, many closed. We are sitting for 2 months in our base CG in MD to avoid fuel costs. CG prices are up 30 to 50 percent. Major motorhome manufactures have bellied up or have cut back production drastically with major layoffs. We hit the road again in Oct, hope things ease up by then as we will be on the road for 11 months and probably 12,000 miles.

This local is up north where its nice and cool. Spending the summer in the Dakotas and Montana.

Just left the Black Hills, and the RV parks said the attendance is down from previous years. We left the day before the Sturgis ralley, and I thought there was a lot of cycles in and heading towards the area. How it compares to previous years, I don't know.

A gift shop owner in the Black hills area, said that he felt that the numbers appeared to be the same, but that people were spending less money.

I noted that Rapid City area fuel prices were approx. 50 cents higher then its neighboring states and even Soiux Falls.

My feelings also concur that there are less RV's on the road this year.

Mi. state parks seem to be full with people traveling througout the state. I think many are staying close to home. I have heard that the tourist type shops are hurting . People spending the minimum to still provide the family with some vacation time. We have stayed pretty close to home and spent longer at each destination. The dual edge is that fuel costs more and business is down. The net effect is like paying $6 a gal as compared to last year.

It's also time to go back to school so vacation time is over for a lot of people. School has already started here.

Went shopping at WM in Dartmouth this morning. Only 1 A and one TT. Way down. Usually 8-10 there. We're leaving Dartmouth this Friday for Ontario for 2 mos and then to Fla for the winter. We'll drive and pay whatever it takes. Wave on the way by.

Ours is in an RV park in Brunswick, GA. We'll be leaving here Tuesday and meandering back toward WV.

I think it has to do with fuel prices because there are definitiely fewer coaches on the road. We recently took a short, 250 mile trip to visit a friend and I contemplated just driving and getting a room in a motel. After doing the math, it was still more economical to drive the M/H at $4.85 a gal. than to do the motel thing. The other big plus that is PRICELESS in my estimation is the fact that I would be in comfortable surroundings, sleep in my own bed, and not have to go to a restaurant if I only wanted a cup of coffee. Diesel will have to go a lot higher before I jump ship!
