We were at Tom Sawyer last year. The view of the Mississippi is great. Barges and tugs cruising by. It gives you an understanding of the rivers importance to the USA commerce. Campground is safe. Some would be uncomfortable in some of the neighborhoods leading in.

If you go in by the river road that comes down from I-40 you no longer have to drive through a seedy area. I have lots of pics of Tom Sawyer RV park in my signature photolink.

Tom Sawyer is very popular, but will be too far from Cordova from daily driving back and forth. Audubon Point is nice and will be about 30 minutes from Cordova. The AgCenter is your best bet. There is no shade, but it is very-well maintained, around plenty of good eating, etc. and is practically in Cordova.
As far as the "crime-ridden" statement, take that with a grain of salt. You'll be fine.

We go there often. If I were you - I would stay at the Agri-Center at the corner of Germantown Road and Walnut Grove Road. It is nice enough but also I have been to nicer places. It is a big open area with gravel roads and large sites without a lot of people staying there - this place is secure, safe and close to where you need to be for your relative.

Some folks evidently don't know the area....This Tom Sawyer place people keep recommending is the other side of the county, through or around the city and across the river and local traffic can be horrible around there. Stay at the Agri Center - especially if you have a pet.

In every grade school and on composition or writing class I've ever had says that the most important material is at the beginning of a composition. The beginning of this thread is "Safe campground near Memphis?" and Tom Sawyer Ms. Rvr. CG fills that bill perfectly. If the OP wanted something different, the OP would have worded the question differently and if OP had done so, I would not even have clicked on it. Internet or not, it's still all about proper communication.

We spent Monday night at T O Fuller TN State Park in SW part of Memphis. The park was cvery nice, lots of shade, plenty of sites to choose from. The campground host very helpful, "city water with 70 lb pressure" use the pressure reducter.

The city streets getting to and from, were through some questionable neighborhoods.

I leave near cordova and the Agra Center is your best bet, it is very close to Cordova and lots to see and do at the Agra Cente ritself. your close to I-40 and lots of places to eat.. very safe area and they now have some full hook up sites. I wish your friend the best and let me know if you need more info... Take i-40 to Germantown rd also called route 177 go south on it for about 5 miles or so and it will be just pass Walnut Grove road overpass on your right..
good luck.
