Right now we've got the good ol' manual step, but as age advances, the knee joints tend to stiffen up. I'm considering going to power step. There's a place for a power step switch on the panel, but I'm wondering about a step that comes out when the door is opened and hides when the door is closed.
Anyone have any experience, pro or con, on power steps in general?

You will need to mount a magnet senor on the bottom of the screen door, that's what controls the in / out operation. The switch is used so when your in the park you can leave them out.
Being in a Class "A" they are almost mandatory, being it's very hard to close your steps when inside getting ready to hit the road. And that first step going out can be one heck of a high when getting out. On a trailer, being your entering and leaving before getting under way it would be more of a luxury.
If it were up to me, I would put them just for convince of not having to pull them out when dripping wet or covered with mud or ice. They are also another maintenance item in that should be lube'd (spray grease) every six months or so. Bill

Any power step you buy today is automatic and will come out when the door is opened. The step has a switch that will keep it out when the engine is off or open and close with the door. It also closes when the engine is started.

My class A came with them. The motor quit working. They are 14 yrs old. I fixed them right away. I thought they were a novelty when we bought the RV but you sure get used to them real fast.

I believe the OP has an older Class "C" and wishes to add them. My rig is a year old and there is no interfaced with engine, they have opened several times while going down the road due to a faulty door sensor. Bill

The new ones are wired so when you start engine the pull in and when you are stopped they open, new ones can't be locked in anymore because of safety I call Kiewee they told me my steps work that way because to many people forgot to unlock steps.
