Can you explain what you mean by unintended contact, what's rubbing and why after 5000 miles?,, Just curious. Thanks.

If you own a Grand Junction with Mor/Ryde suspension, I suggest you have your tires checked. It appears that the suspension is making "unintended contact" with the tire rubber resulting in what appears to be tread seperation from the tire. Mor/Ryde has issued a service alert regarding this issue. They, Mor/Ryde or Grand Junction et al, has not issued a recall on this problem. I recently had both the axels and the suspension replaced at the Goshen factory.

The problem manifests itself after about 5000 miles on the tires. I have met at least two other Grand Junction owners that have had the same problem.

Is this just related to Grand Junction/Morryde combination, or does it apply to other fivers?

I had my 2007 GJ 335TRL in for some minor warranty bugs in April before it past its one-year mark.

The dealer's service manager(Lassen RV, Ore.) checked whatever factory maintenance database they use and told me my unit had two outstanding "service bulletins" (he said they were not recalls).
One was for the Mor Ryde suspension and the other had to do with the Lippert frame/axles. NO CHARGE. Told them go for it.

They kept the rig and got parts from the factory.
When I picked up the trailer, I talked to the technician who actually did the work. He said the service bulletins called for welding in stiffener plates to the frame's axle mounts for additional lateral strength and drilling new holes and repositioning bolts that mount the Mor Ryde suspension system. The last one sounds like it could be related to the tire contact problem.

Since April, we have had some fairly long trips - Yellowstone & Glacier NPs and running all across Washington State - been watching the tires as always- no problems so far.

I suggest recent model GJ owners should ask their dealers to check for these "service bulletins."

First of all, I’ve stumbled around quite a bit looking for a meaningful forum and am mighty happy to finally find a forum and a thread actually dedicated to Grand Junction fifth wheels. I was just starting to participate in the Dutchmen forum for GJ and it just went away one day! The moderator finally replied to me that he didn’t have time to manage it so he closed it down.
Anyway, we bought a 2007 34TRG last October and really love the trailer. We were planning to buy a Montana when we accidentally stopped at a Grand Junction dealership near Williamsburg VA. Well, the wife saw the GJ and issued her edict that she was done looking.
Now to my meaningful question… I have four Power King TowMax ST235/80R16 E tires on the trailer. I have found little information about these Chinese made tires other than that the Les Schwab (Pacific NW dealer) folks seem to think they’re pretty good. I have read copious horror stories about other brands made in China (commonly called “China Bombs”) that disintegrate without warning. Do any of you have the same tires on your GJ and would you share your good or bad stories about reliability with me? I will say that I maintain 80psi, visually inspect them every time before I take the trailer out, and use a tire pressure monitoring system while traveling (so far so good). I also can’t seem to find a replacement tire built in the USA that has a tire weight capacity of 3,500 lbs other than Goodyear G64s.

Hi OSU:
I saw the Power Kings on the trailer when I was dealing it. My previous trailer had GY G-614's with less than 10K on them. I had the dealer switch wheels and tires from the previous to the GJ. So far we have only used it very little but really like it. Good luck with yours.

Hey Virgil. I really meant to refer to Goodyear G-614 tires, not G64. Tthanks for the info. - Guy

We have a 2006 GJ 35TMS and like it very much. I fell in love with the floor plan, especially the totally enclosed bathroom. We have a fireplace in the living room and one in the bedroom and they are good at taking the chill off. The only major problem we've had was with the tires. I don't recall the manufacturer of the tires that came on it (it was new), they were E rated and we had two blow-outs within the first 2500 miles. We replaced the tires with G rated tires. We've had some minor issues, just as with any new RV.

After looking at their website...I'm absolutely amazed that any manufacturer would put E load tires on a unit of that size and weight! Seems to me G loads would be standard, along with 7,000lb axles, on something with a dry weight of almost 13,000 lbs...what are they thinking?

I agree, but remember that these "China Bomb" tires are DOT rated for a load of 3,500+ lbs. They just don't seem to last very long. The axles are rated at 7,000 lbs.
