And it was going so well too........then 9/10's of the way up blood mountain in Georgia the transmission blows up. My son warned me when I bought the truck with 82,000 miles on it that I can count on it going at around 100,000 miles and boy did it go!!! We had 101,950 on it at the time.
Left us on a curve going UP the mountain with the fiver behind us and our friends with their truck/fiver behind us......We told them to go on to Vogel SP in Blairsville and we called Good Sam ERS.....
Man that was a great experience! They got there within an hour, towed the truck to Arne's in Blairsville to be repaired. Took the fiver to Vogel SP and our friends after getting in their spot picked up our fiver in the parking lot and took us to our spot.
A little over $3,000 dollars and 3 days later (we broke down at noon on a Friday and had it back by 4PM on Monday) we have us a Jasper transmission with a 3 year/100,000 mile warranty and had no problems getting home yesterday. Our two week vacation was great - just a little MORE expensive then we thought it was be.
But KUDOS to our friends, Good Sam ERS and Arne's in Blairsville,
all THREE were wonderful.

Well besides the bad experience you had it sounded like the transition to repair and everything in between went well.Sorry it cost you so much(not bad though for a road repair) but I guess you never know when something like that is going to happen.

Did you get a differant tork converter for better pressure, or stay with the original.

Whoa! Where did that come from? I hope you folks know each other and that wasn't just one more of those childish pokes from one type of truck owner to the other type of truck owner.
I take from the O/P's post that there are benefits to having a good road=side service plan and also good friends who helped move the trailer onto a site so the repair could be "waited out" in comfort. I don't believe the poster deserved a slam with reference to "lemons".
Maybe I'm too sensitive though.
On re-reading my post I realized I didn;t contribute anything useful to the dialogue and would like to add: Upon rebuilding/replacing transmission, I've heard that it is a good idea to replace the oil cooler as well as very often particles get trapped that will not be removed when the system is drained and refilled after rebuild. those particles very often break free later when the cooler warms up and expands to wreak havoc on your new tranny. A cooler replacement and system pressure flush might be in order if the shop didn't already perform this as part of their repair protocol.
Today is just the tomorrow you worried about yesterday!

I get it, Lemonade is what you get out of Lemons. Turning something bad into something good. At least that is the way I read it

Hey me too! Now, after re-reading, I get the metaphor (similie) and owe Chev Freak an apology. I'm genuinely sorry for inferring you may have been sending a slight towards the O/P.

Having a 7.3 Superduty the weak link is the tranny. I plan on a BTS tranny when the time comes, but hopefully with the things I have done that won't be for awhile. The best thing you can do for that new tranny is a 6.0 trans cooler instead of adding a auxiliary cooler.Your stock cooler will not get the job done towing big 5vers in the heat of the summer, trust me been there been lucky so far that my stock tranny is still going , but I keep the oil changed and with the 6.0 cooler have not seen anything over 180 degrees in 90-100 temperatures. I would also add a auxiliary temperture gauge if you haven't already those stock guages are not very accurate. One last comment heat is probably what got your last one and heat will get the new one if you do not do something to keep it cooler like what I have said.
