That's my number 2 pet peeve. I see fairly new vehicles all the time with 2 out of 3 brake lights out. I also see them with both tail lights out. I wonder if they ever look at the back of the vehicle. I've even told people that they have a brake light out and have been told, "oh yeah I know it but I still got one". How crazy is that?
And the number 1 pet peeve is................ Not using turn signals.

We have a 2009 trailer that has a brake light that seems to constantly jiggle loose. We check it every time before we travel and it is always out. There may be a short or a defective light. DH takes off the cover and jiggles it and it works again. I'm sure the bumpy roads here in Oklahoma jiggle it loose again right away!
When DH gets home again from the sea, we will have to figure out the problem. So, please don't assume that those of us with non-working brake lights don't check them or don't care. In our case, it is a mechanical failure that we have yet to solve.

Takes about two minutes to get it done.

Sig. TV is my daily driver, I'm in it before daylight, easy check for me. We(DW, with me), also check them once a week and always check them all(trailer and TV), before towing, my FIRST pet peeve though, is with people who don't use their turn signals when turning...this one beats out the "burned out lights" on TV's by quite a bit on my "pet peeve list".

I was under the impression that most of the newer vehicles have a "light out"warning on the dash to advise when this occurs.
Stupid question, but are people really that blind they cant see it?
I aggree with Rangerdave, not using blinkers and staying in a blind spot when I have the blinker on is also one of my pet peeves.
Another one is speed up to pass me then cut in front and slow down because they almost missed their offramp.

You don't need a helper to check trailer lights.
Turn on your headlights and your 4 ways. Since the brakes use the same element as the turn signals, you can check all of them like this.
None of my newer vehicles < 2000 have bulb out indicators. The third brake light in my truck has been out for a couple of years, but it is only used with the trailer, so I just haven't bothered looking into it.
