Has anyone with a Ford V10 F53 chassis motor home changed out their antifreeze??
Can you supply instructions for doing it?
I think it is 8 years old now and feel its past time to change it
Thanks for any instructions
Don
Thanks to all; This was an easy job took 2-3 hrs this am to drain, flush, drain, and fill with antifreeze
I measured how much drained into pan and I was able to get the same amount back in again-will check after it cools and re heats to make sure its at the marks. Top hose was hot and heater was blowing hot air so I am sure all the air is out .

Don, I have the older 460 engine but the coolant change procedure should be the same. Locate the radiator drain plug and open it. Now pull both of the engine block plugs and drain the block. Now replace the drain plugs and turn off the radiator drain. Fill with water. Probably take about 3-4 gallons. Now set the heater control on hot and start the engine and let it warm up. Repeat the drain and fill procedure one more time. Drain again. Fill the system with 50/50 antifreeze and DISTILLED water. Siphon the old collant out of the overflow resovoir and fill it with the 50/50 blend. Warm up the engine and recheck coolant level several times.

Find someone local with experience and have them do it. If you don't know what you're doing stay out from under the hood unless you have a lot of money to fix what you screwed up.

Ford recommends first change at 4yrs or 48,000mi and there after at 3yrs or 36,000mi. I had mine done at the Ford garage where they flushed it with a machine to clean and replace the antifreeze.

Don,I have a 99 F53 V10 chassis.I changed the antifreeze last year. The total system holds about 8 gallons, but when you drain the radiator you only get about 4 gallons.I drained the radiator and added 4 gallons of distilled water, and drove the motorhome to my sons weekly dirt bike race(90 mile round trip),4 weeks in a row. After 4 weeks the water drained out pretty clean. After I felt it was flushed enough I drained the radiator and added 4 gallons of full strength antifreeze. After a couple weeks of driving it tests good to minus 40 degrees.

Antifreeze never wears out, but the rust inhibitor does. Be your own judge. I add new rust inhibitor and leave the radiator alone. mho

For all you wanna be mechanics sometimes it doesn't pay to do your own work if you don't know what you're doing. If it was a "closed loop system" you aren't going to drain out all the old antifreeze and you'd just be adding "new" to mix with the old. I love it when you folks are spending a ton of money to buy your RVs but too darn cheap to have it serviced properly. Makes a lot of sense.
It's like dropping $100,000 plus on that fancy Class A but cry about gas or diesel prices. Duh.

Actually, with a little knowledge, the average "reasonably mechanical" owner will do a BETTER job of draining, flushing and filling the cooling system.
It mostly takes TIME (repeat flushes until water is clear-- running engine each time to circulate water, letting it cool, etc). Something you do not need to pay for others to do. Also, you KNOW distilled water is used if you do it.
