Hi Everyone,

I just want to know if any of you add 5 to 10 gallons of water to all your Tanks so it sloshes around during the drive for cleaning purposes and if you add any chemical or detergent to the mix.

I have been doing it for a while and I normally put in some chemical with it.

This upcoming trip I think I want to get the tanks much cleaner.

I am thinking of putting in some Laundry detergent to get the tanks allot cleaner, especially the black water tank. My DW says the laundry detergent will suds up to much.

Maybe dish washing detergent instead of laundry detergent will be better , what do you think?

If you do this, what do you add to the water?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions or commits.

Thanks
Dave A

I always a little water & chemical to the tanks before & after a trip. It helps keep the odors down.

EDIT - if you are going to use detergent - use the ones designed for dishwashers or a washing machine ( low or no suds ) -- trust me.......

I never put any thing in the holding tanks. I used to put in Pinesol, but heard that will eat the O ring in the dump valve. If anything a cup of Bleach in the gray tank. A few gallons of water in the black tank.

If you want your tanks clean get a tornado spray washer. The black tank is just what is says it is, a black tank. I'm not even thinking about serving or storing anything in there but what its intend use is, which is a holding tank till I can dump into an approve place. In this case I don't believe in better living thru chemistry. JMHO Bill

Just plain ole water. Use a Flush King and is all you could need.

Always a normal 2ozs and a couple of gallons of water. With a active enzyme product it can slosh every where to eat up the waste, worked fine for years now.

I have heard that adding a bag of ice and some water when you head out will clean up the back water tank.

If you are determined to put something in the tank use powdered Borax and/or Rid-ex. But I generally don't put anything in my tank and use my Tornado tank washer every so often.

I always keep a few gallons of water in the black tank. When we use the head we flush with extra water so as to have plenty of water in the black tank for a good dump

I have found that we keep our tanks cleaner since we have been putting about 3-5 gallons of water in the BW tank with some chemicals after we have fully cleaned out the tank.

This allows the tank to slosh during the trip home and again on the trip back out.

but don't put a lot of water in. you want the ice to slide around and bang a bit, not just slosh around in the water.
