If it doesn't stink it's good enough for me.

The secret is to dump immediately when arriving at your destination. It doesn't help much to slosh it around and then let it settle again. Then, partially fill and dump again. Repeat until the water runs clear. I do that as often as possible...and ALWAYS when arriving back home after a trip. Has resulted in years without a problem.

We dump when we get home. I then add our special "tank soup" and about 3 gallons of water where is sits until the next time we use the trailer.

I like the sound of that "Tank Soup."

And Bumpy - how come you haven't visited Michigan yet?

I'm new to the bathroom procedures with my new tt but I thought I would dump/clean grey/black prior to leaving the camp on the way home and carry empty clean tanks all the way home? Is this not the proper way? When I go camping next time it's with empty tanks?

Sound advise on the low suds, you must have found out the hard way!!!!!

I dump then flush if there is not a back up re-dump then add about 5 gals of water via the toilet and dump in about 3 cups of bleach (1 ½ each tank). This is done to both gray and black tanks then I let it sit for a day or two then dump that into my blue tote. I fill the tote all the way up with water let it sit a couple days then dump it in the storm sewer. Before anyone posts anything I checked with the Wood County Water Shed to make sure this was ok. And as long as I have chlorine bleach added to it they are good with it.

We always start out with a few (<5 gallons) of water in the black tank, along with the usual dose of stinkgood chemicals. At the end of the season, we travel with about 50% full black tank with 1 cup of Calgon for 100-200 miles to clean the tank before dumping for the winter.

I add 2-4 gallons of water and a TST single bottle of chemical to the black tank before we head home every trip.
