Hi all,

I just arrived at my RV spot in Wendover NV (middle of nowhere) and discovered my air conditioner is blowin hot air. The temp outside is 95 degrees. The unit is blowing OK however, the fan and A/C both just blow outside temp air. Normally, when I switch to A/C, I can clearly hear the compressor kick on but now when I go from fan to A/C, there is no change. Desperate! Any ideas?

My guess is you already have the thermostat set to a low enough temperature?

The problem might require the attention of a RV mechanic.

There are only a few problems that are easy to check.

If you have a bad thermostat, you need a parts store at the least, mechanic to determine and fix it at the most.

Same thing if you have a bad capacitor, bad relay on the circuit board, bad wiring someplace.

From what you described so far, the parts I think might be bad are the circuit board relay, thermostat, capacitor, or a burnt wire someplace.

Thanks Fred. I might be in trouble. No RV mechanic within 100 miles. I'm hopefull someone might chime in with a simple fix. Not likely but .............Thanks again Fred

Make sure you have enough amperage going to unit. Turn everything else off. After it gets going (compressor) then it draws less amperage and other things can be turned back on. Good luck!

Just a thought...if your thermostat is bad it may not operate the furnace either. Check the heat and see if that works. If it's the thermostat, maybe Golden can advise you which 2 low voltage wires you can jump for a temporary fix.

Hi again all,

My son is up on the trailer roof and removed the A/C housing. The compressor is definately coming on when the A/C is turned on. Still hot. Thermostat? If so, is there a bypass that was suggested?
Thanks again!

One note. I'm trying the furnace which is seperate from the A/C however I'm not sure if it will kick on sense it only goes to 90 degrees and the temp is 95

If the compressor is running, the suction line (larger line to compressor) should get cool and eventually start to sweat and the discharge line (smaller line to compressor) should get warm...actually hot. If this is not happening, you got problems. Look for some oily spots on the lines which could indicate a refrigerant (oil) leak.

You should hear and feel the compressor start.

Hello Teddysmith,

You did not say what size the AC unit is. Being that the temp in the trailer is 95 degrees, it may be a while before you notice cooler air. Run the blower on low. Open all windows to ventilate the RV of superheated air.

Last resort, buy ice and a table fan to get you thru.

Good Luck!
