Friday evening, we pulled into our reserved pull-through campsite at a state park, and someone was parked in it. When DH pulled up right behind the car and started trying to get our TT situated in the spot, the car's owner came up to him and said, "Do I really have to move my car, or can I leave it here?"
The campsite was a "buddy site" we had booked with friends, and the posts for the sites had the reservation/"site occupied" information prominently displayed. A few minutes after we arrived, someone pulled into our friends' site and were all ready to unhook their 5th wheel before DH walked over and said, "Uh... that site has been reserved and paid for."
We also saw one this weekend who parked their boat in a site next to their camper. I don't know for sure, they might have rented two spots, but I doubt it. We saw one sight this weekend (we were at a Corp of Engineers park) it was a two rv site and they had over 10 vehicles parked everywhere. I'm all about having fun, but don't invite the whole neighborhood! Your right, makes for good stories.
Some people don't get it. That happened to us on our 1st Anniversary. Except, the people took our reserved, specially picked out spot (that was paid for). They had already set up camp and were eating when we arrived. Talk about awkward. When we explained it was for our Anniversary and that it was a special spot (and paid for), they said for us to get the Park Warden and they weren't moving. "Pick another spot. There are plenty of them." Sure, there were, but this one cost more due to its waterfront location and being the ONLY waterfront location. What a mess.
Instead of causing a stink, we just moved to another spot - far away - and then spent our day on their beach. LOL.

I would have talked to the ranger/park host and had them move. After all you paid for it.

So, by not forcing them to move, you just reinforced their feelings that they are the ME ME ME generation, and to he** with everyone else. I would have taken great pleasure in getting the ranger and watching them break camp. Maybe they would have argued with him and got thrown out on their sorry butts. Now THAT would have me smiling.
Get the park warden is right. I would have chewed the warden's ear off and moved up the line of authority. The rules are for everybody to follow, not just a few. You make reservations for a reason. Maybe you just liked the view from that site or liked the shade or in your case a fond memory. Its just a matter of principal. Its makes no difference that he was already set up or there are a lot of empty sites. You followed the rules and took the time to make and pay for that site. If there were a lot of empty sites then he should have taken one that was not reserved. Instead he got away with making his own rules. This is the kind of person who will play his music so loud that everybody in camp can enjoy it all hours of the nite.
We were at a state park in early June when a PUP without a reservation tried to back into a lake front reserved spot. These are angled spots and he backs in from the wrong direction. He backs over the wooden site number post and breaks a taillight and puts a small hole in the PUP. He does all this as a ranger is driving by. The guy not only has to move but he gets a ticket for damaging state property. He knocked over the wooden post with the site number on it. Sometimes justice does happen!

In our area, whether at a private campground, or a federal/state/county facility, you have to check in. When you check in you get something with the site number and the last day you are paid for written on it. That has to be prominently displayed in the windshield or on the RV. And they check on a regular basis to make sure you are in the right spot and paid for.
Don't they do that in any other areas?
