I'm nervous tonight because, with our slides out, we take up two parking spaces. And, actually, our bedroom slide is right on the edge of a third spot. We plan on closing up the living room slides, but we have to have the bedroom slide out -- the bed is at a 45 degree angle otherwise.

It's 11 p.m. and there are still about 30 spots available.

Still, are we being very poor guests? Does anyone else run into this?

IMHO, yes you are being a very poor quest and possibly depriving a late arriving trucker of a parking place in his own environment, plus I have seen the aftermath when a tired trucked pulled into a spot and did not realize the RVer had a slide out. The results were not pretty, so please reconsider having your slide out and risking possible damage to your rig and or bringing hard feelings on the RV community from the truckers.

Truck stops were never meant as a camp ground. If you have to have your slides out you belong in a campground.

I agree 150 percent with The Texan. Your looking for a problem. Climb into bed instead of sitting on the bed. Or can wake up outside.

Agree 100%, If you cannot afford to spend the money for a campground or even boondock at no cost somewhere else then you should probably stay home.

I won't be as harsh on you as some have been! I just wanted to add that personally I wouldn't sleep well not knowing if I would wake up dead or not from some trucker taking my slide with the DW and I in it as he tried to park.

You might do ok....and you might not....is it worth the worry?

When we have to pull into a truck stop or Walmart we always leave our slides in. Like the others have said, mainly because of the danger of getting side-swiped. We just climb over each other into the bed and consider it an adventure. I really prefer RV parks but sometimes you have no choice but to do the Truck Stop or Walmart thing. For your safty and others keep the slides in and get a good night sleep.

We usually pick a WalMart,K-Mart, Cabellas,Sam's Club or somewhere else we can park against the grass to put our bedroom slide out. We have never parked with the noisey trucks, we have parked at J's where we could get against the grass and once we kept the slide in. We left a J the other evening in favor of a nearby casino. Much quieter and we could get against the grass in their huge outer lot. And yes we do use campgrounds but we don't care to deal with trees after dark.
