Hello RV brothers and sisters,
I recently took my 5th wheel to the dealer for some minor repairs. While trying to unhitch the 5th wheel from my truck, I could not extend the front jacks of the 5th wheel; there was no power. I double checked the plug, and tried a second plug. Still no power. The dealer brought out a service cart, and plugged the RV into the cart. There was power and the jacks were extended and we were able to unhitch the 5th wheel. Has anyone ever had this problem?
You had to have at least two problems for the electric jacks not to work while hooked up to your truck. The trucks electrical system feeding the plugs is not making it to the plugs either by fuse blown or loose connections. The other problem is your camper battery should have been supplying voltage to the electric jacks also. Maybe a third problem is a intermitten electrical problem with your jacks.
On the 08 Jayco there is a 30 amp in line fuse behind the battery that powers the front jacks. Like you my front jacks would not work while hooked up to my truck. We replaced the fuse and everything was fine.
There is an inline fuse on the line running to the jack motor. Also, check your connections at your battery. My battery has two red lines and two black lines hooked up to it. This spring I forgot to hook up the second set of lines.
I had a similar problem. My front jacks worked fine and one day and the next they stopped. A few guys on this forum said to check the fuses around the batteries. When I did, I found an old in-line fuse (the kind on an old car radio) and it was loose. After wiggling the fuse, voila, the jacks worked fine. Since that episode, it has never occurred again. I would say check the fuses.
By the way, the electric motor that drives the jacks is usually easy to access. If you can somehow connect power directly to the motor and the jacks work, then most likely that would leave you w/some type of faulty connection or fuse.
