Hi Everyone,
We will be in Gold Beach Oregon for about a week in mid Sept. I am looking for suggestions on things to see and do in the area. Places to go and restaurants also would be appreciated. We have never been to this area. We will be staying at the "Turtle Rock" RV park. Thanks for your help.

there is a place near there, that is (Now I've forgotten the name of the place), but it is something like mystery trees or something mystery. they have house build like on angles but balls roll up hill, etc. real weird place, you are half spooky when you leave, they tell of the Indians horses wouldn't go into the woods in this area, they would buck and run off.
"Old Guy" - I think you've confused two different places, the Trees of Mystery in N. California, and the Vortex House in Gold Hill off I5 in Oregon. BTW, I agree with your pronunciation of Oregon. :-) As for the original post, I would second a jet boat/mail boat tours.

Thank you for the tips! How long are the boat trips? And we have been to the Trees of Mystery! Very cool! If I remember right it is where Babe and Paul Bunyon live.

Not sure of the time. I am thinking that they have 2 trips, one longer than the other. We also had a lunch served at our turn around spot. Then on the way back, we stooped and picked up the mail.
I am sure that all the info would be on their web site. Mail Boat

The Oregon Vortex is in Gold Hill, Oregon, which is along I-5. There is a road between Gold Hill & Gold Beach, running along the Rogue River, but it would not be a route I could recommend. We've taken the Mailboats up the Rogue River, and there are no major roads out there. The route recommended by Mapquest between the two cities is 154 miles, taking you down into California, then back up 101.
I would heartily recommend the jet boat trips up the Rogue River. We took the 104-mile Handle with Care trip. If you have a day, can afford it, and are willing to ride up & down whitewater, opt for the longest trip. We debated between the 64-mile & the 104-mile trips. For us, we were glad we spent the extra money, since it's not a trip we'd be taking every year. Next time we're down there, we will do it again. Taking the longer trip gets you into the Wild & Scenic part of the river, up as far as the boats can travel. The scenery is incredible, and the guides will point out wildlife along the trip.
