When I purchased my Fifth wheel used, it came with a RV cover, breathable type. One persons opinion was do not use, because it holds in Moisture etc. He stated it was actually bad for my roof. Not allowing to breath or some odd thing. Well looking for others opinion. We are putting our rig in storage for approx three months in Florida. Is it worth the hastle of installing and removing. Or a good thing.

Thanks so much in advance,

Charlie...

We've been happy to have ours. Granted, the a/c, Maxxair vent covers and other things have held the cover mostly off the roof, but as far as we know, there has been no damage from the cover. On the contrary, with the cover and the vent covers, we were able to leave our vents open all winter, allowing some airflow in the camper and preventing condensation & mildew.

I would think that the UV would be doing more damage. You can always put some large type balls under the cover to help hold it off the roof, but I don't see any need. As you said it's a breathable cover. JMHO Bill

I agree with stopping the UV!!! And I'd also highly recommend adding the Max-Air vent covers before you put it away---helps let air circulate....and put some closed-cell foam---like the pink carpet pad foam----over the vent covers and A/C(tape it in place with the blue painters tape to hold it there while you put the cover on)......

I've got a breathable cover on my winter-time TT....it's been stored in Daytona for 9-10 months/year for 3 years without any mildew or damage.....and my B-I-L says it's also saved me from hail damage, too!

Use it , or you'll be replacing everything that's made of plastic around the outside of the RV in a couple years, I've been there. Most of the pieces I've replaced, need replacing again, mine is under a pole barn, but gets side exposure. The roof vents, and skylights in the shade are still perfect.

Use it! I cover mine all winter, and we get a lot of with snow and ice. Never a problem.

Get some tire covers, too. They go on easily, and will pay for themselves.

Have to agree with all of the above. If you don't have the opportunity to park the rig under any kind of protective structure (which I don't), it's a valuable thing to have.

The debate to cover or not will rage on, I offer this situation to take into consideration.
A co-worker of mine had his 2006 Outback in storage in Georgia covered with a breatheable cover. He went to use the camper 3 weeks ago and uncovered it to find that the front area was badly wrinkled due to delamination. He took it to a dealer and was advised that the damage was not related to water intrusion but due to heat possibly made worse because it was covered. Cost to replace and repair $1600.
