A short time ago I recall reading a post about a very bad stretch of road in Nova Scotia. I did a search and can't seem to find the post now. We are working our way there now and I am interested in re-reading the post. Anyone have any ideas about this post?
Thanks in advance for any help.
As I said there, they are from The Maritimes.Ca, too. So, likely they are not trying to make a 2-laner into a super highway and are driving a reasonable speed. & that is this year.
We spent about 2 weeks in Nova Scotia this past June, mostly on Cape Breton. I read BelleisleNB's post in July but didn't to reply at the time. Here's our experience:
We entered NS at Amherst and drove route 104 all the way to the Canso Causeway. Route 104 is in excellent condition. From Canso, we drove route 19 along the west coast of Cape Breton up to Cheticamp then through the Highlands NP to Cape Smokey PP. This section of road was in fair to good condition with some rough sections. Nothing to really complain about. However, the section of route 19 between Cape Smokey and St. Anns is without doubt the worst 30 miles of road we have ever driven. The MH was constantly bouncing up and down and rocking side to side due to the undulations in the road surface. It was impossible to drive at anywhere the posted speed limit. Fortunately there was very little traffic, so I was often able to place the left tires over the center line in order to use the smoothest part of the roadway. From St. Anns we picked up route 105 to route 238 near Little Narrows through Iona and up to route 125 around Sydney to route 22 to Louisborg. I don't recall any issues with these roads. From Louisborg we too route 22 back to pick up route 4 south to Battery to route 104 to Canso. Routes 4 and 104 were good roads. We stayed with route 104 to Truro then took routes 238 and 215 (The Glooscap Trail). Unfortunately, these last two roads were just as bad as the worst section of route 19. We decided to give up on the Trail when we reached route 354 and headed down to route 14 and then on to route 101 to Digby. Routes 14 and 101 were good roads. From Digby, we took the ferry back to St. Johns, NB.
We really enjoyed our visit to Nova Scotia, but my wife doesn't want to return until they pave the roads.
