We are looking to take a trip to Minnesota next summer and would like to find a top notch rv park...here are some requirements.
1) Full hookup sites for 5er and oversized pop-up on steroids (I'm poking good natured fun at my buddies new camper)
2) Cabins available for buddy who doesn't have camper
3) On a lake thats decent for fishing but not so large that a rental fishing boat is undersized (will be taking kids out in pm for perch/bluegill with dads wanting to catch few walleye @ dawn)
4) swimming pool for kids and wives
5) not so isolated that doing tourist stuff takes 30 minute car ride
6) not in the center of city so as not to lose the "camping" feeling
7) coming from Missouri so doesn't have to be on the boundary waters area (too long a drive)
8) we'll be spending a week or so there
Thx for the responses...in college (many moons ago) I was a camp counselor on Lake Plantangenet sp? outside of Bemidji and want to take the kids up to Minnesota to relive those wonderful memories.

Having lived in the Twin Ports for 9 years, not too much comes to mind that fits your requirements. I ranged primarily along the North Shore, Boundary Waters and all over Wisconsin.
One area I can say does fit your bill is the Wisconsin Dells, right off Interstate 90/94.
However, I understand the desire to be in middle/upper Minnesota. It is a different world and fits my definition of "true nature". However, there's just not much in the way of civilization to meet some of your "close by" requirements. That's, in fact, counter-intuitive to the nature of upper Minnesota.
I would be very curious to see what others come back with. We miss being away as well.

Was going to smack rvtommy, but read last post after posting...
The KOA in bemidji can do all of this for you. Granted this koa is not perfect , but has cabins, pool, and lots of room for a 5'er. It is a short distance from Itasca state park which features: the headwaters of the Mississippi, fishing (not sure on boats in the lake, but canoes are available- maybe fishing boats on the MANY lakes around Bemidji), bicycling, canoeing/kyaking, camping without full hook-ups, hiking, the worlds tallest pine trees on a BEAUTIFUL drive, not to mention the amazing scenery.
There is a great animal park east of town as well as Paul Bunyan museum in town. Lots of fun shopping in town, and many family activities.
We were there for all of this two summers ago. Planning on going back with more time.
Have a great trip!!
