Can you have Direct TV or Dish Network just in your motorhome without having it in your home?
We have Comcast (cable) at our home and have our internet through them, too...don't really want to change our home system. So just wondering if it's possible to just have it in the MH or is it too cost prohibitive?
I'm sure it would be better to have at home and just take a receiver, when needed, to the MH...but again...really don't want to switch at home.

We only have DISH for the MH, cable at home. Not real smart $$$ wise, but cable works too well at home. We activate our DISH account in the spring, pay the $45.00/month for service, the put it on "DISH Pause" for the winter. DISH Pause keeps the account active throughout the winter for $5.00/ month so it's simply a phone call in the spring to get it reactivated.
I'd like to do something different to save a few $$$, but local channels aren't available on the dish in our area and cable won't follow us in the MH.
There are 24 hours in every day - it all depends on how you choose to use them.

Here's a link to a company that offers pre-paid Dish service. It sounds like it works just like a pay as you go phone. You buy a pre paid card and activate it when you need/want it.

Direct tv in mh and cable in house.Direct tv just for the warm months.will shut down direct when winterrize.

I think you can also get a similar deal at Wal-Mart. sounds like a good deal for part timers.

I have done this many times through Dish Depot with no problems. There are no local channels and you do need a special receiver. I like the fact that they email the information and you don't have to wait for the card to be mailed to you.

DirecTV or Dish will both sell service for a mobile installation. Fees are comparable to a residential installation. DirecTV offers DNS, Dish can't sell that but you can buy the service from a third party.
Whether is it cost prohibitive, is for you to decide. The costs depend on how much service you choose to buy, possibly as little as $20 a month, escalating to more than $100 in you do a lot of pay-per-view.
If you don't want service full time, you can buy prepaid. Not necessarily the same programming, and slightly higher rates than under contract.

Radio Shack sells a dish receiver and dish antenna with installation kit. You can also get the pay as you go card or you can call dish and set it up on credit card payment. Of course you can get the equipment and installation free if you sign up for a long term contract, but doing it this way there is no contract, and you can pause or terminate at any time with no penalty. It is a pay as you go, either with the "renewable" card or via your credit card. We did this about 2 months ago and it works fine. Very easy to install and set up the dish. I really didn't want some "installer" drilling holes in my rig. We use the cable connection to hook up the dish antenna and it works well. You will also need a tripod. We could sign up to get local channels, but since we are full timers and travel, we didn't. We just use our antenna for locals wherever we are. I will have to eventually get a converter for that. We did sign up for auto pay charged to our credit card and got Cinemax with 5 channels for 1 cent a month for a year.

Some friends said taking the reciever from the house sometimes entails a 'roaming' agreement that some people find an annoying charge. TOM

I have cable at home and DirecTV in the MH. The cost per month is the same as a home setup. Mine cost a lot only because I had the Winegard Trav'ler antenna put on the MH roof. You don't have to go with that antenna. Tripods work, too.
