This fiver is a little different with a full basement and step well. It also only has one step up to the bed room. I like these features but would like to see other manufactures designs. Does anyone know of a manufacture with full basement in a fifth wheel and one step or no step to the bedroom? I guess New Horizon would build one ?

Or you can simply go to the Forestriverinc.com web page and look at the Cardinal floor plans. These trailers are built for them by I believe Cardinal division and then they add a "few special" items and call them Americana.

the americana is made by a private company, They purchase cardinal models and modify them to their specs and sell them as Americana models. there has been some questions as to the warranty of the units, owners on the cardinal club forum say forest river warranties the base model for one year and to talk to Americana for more info. They have a pretty nice web site. My only issue is that they claim that the standard features on the cardinals like hyd. slides, constuction and benefits are "their" items, i think they should say "we chose our base because......"

I have a 2003 americana and only had one small warranty issue. Loose wire. They handled it with out a problem. I would like to have a new custom built.

That "full basement" is something that is pretty standard across the board now with most models of 5er's over 34' long having 140sq ft or more of basemant storage. It is also very much the norm now for all tankage to be located over the axles under the flooring, where the h--- else would you put them, in the bedroom? Under floor insulation and tankage beneath that then the bottom cover with insulation on top of that is how every other manufacturer makes a four seasons coach, nothing unique there among the trailers using a very large profile frame cross section of 12" or greater. Using the entire basement for the cold air return is also common in the industry with some even providing a small duct run from the furnace directly down into that tankage cavity to ensure warmth. The "one step up" to the bedroom is achieved by having a lower basement ceiling height coupled with the higher than normal lounge/kitchen floor level (that's the reason for the stepwell inside the trailer, other wise you'd need a 5 step fold out step outside the coach) and that also allows them to have a flat roof design with sacrificing just a little bit of ceiling height in the bath/bedroom area. Newmar, TravelSupreme (no longer in business), Teton homes, Carriage, DRV industries, and some others, all provide a variant of the flat roof but most still have more than one step up as they want to provide monster storage in the basement for prospective fulltimers.
The single area where Americana is breaking from the flock is with their ability/willingness to modify a coach's floorplan to store a small boat/cycles in the rear and under the goose neck in the basement storage area. They do this by allowing entry "BETWEEN" the frame rails and then fabricate a floor "hung" from the frame at the usual belly pan height. That idea alone makes them worth exploring further although that would entail some sacrifice to the coaches insulative "R" values.

A fear would be the tendency to overload the trailer. We don't fulltime and I'm amazed at the stuff we carry. it doesn't look like the weight on these is any different that most other fivers of the same size.

I think they need to scrap the Teddy Bear. They go and take a coach that looks as nice as a Cardinal and slap a Teddy Bear on it? !
