We're looking at staying in the Dalles area of Oregon for a few days and a local winery owner recommended the "Horse Thief" and "Peach Beach campgrounds to us.

I can't find anything on either park in any guide I use. Does anyone know of these campground or any other park they would recommend in the area?

We have a 37' fifth wheel so we won't fit into some of the smaller sites at state parks.

Maybe he was thinking Columbia Hills List 65 foot site. Go to page two on upper right for more info.

I think this would be better for your rig. It is a decent park. MaryHill

Maybe MEMALOOSE STATE PARK on the Oregon side West of The Dalles. Sits between the freeway and the Railroad so be a sound sleeper. But it is a nice park. Has some sites that you should be OK for you. The kicker is that you need to go about 3 or so miles further west to return east.

Edit: So you know...there is "The Dalles" where you are heading and "Dallas" in the Willamette Valley east of Salem. Some folks get them mixed up.

Enjoy your trip.

Both HorseThief and Peach Beach are across the Columbia, in Washington. Check there. Also, MaryHill State Park. HorseThief is just across the bridge from The Dalles. It's a nice small state park. Google it at Horsethief Lake state park, Washington.
For some reason, it doesn't come up on some of the State Park sites.

Peach Beach campground is just past the entrance to Maryhill State park. Very limited direct water access(due to the natural shrubs and trees left alone), but its a short walk to the larger Day Use beach at the Maryhill park.

I would definitely have a reservation in hand before I would head to that area for camping. There are several really nice cgs there, like the ones mentioned,BUT it's an extremely popular place because of the world class wind surfing there.I doubt you could even get a site at Memalose SP and even Maryhill SP either, before the middle of september..
I would reccommend that you go to:www.epgsoft.com/CampgroundMap/index.htmland type in Hood River,Or
or:www.rvparkreviews.com

Thanks for the replies, we decided to set up camp a few miles to the west in Hood River which will still allow lots of day trips to local attractions.

We are staying at the LePage National Recreation Park by Rufus, then we are taking our tow in to tour. We get there Aug 18 for 5 nights. Reserve at Here. They had some sites big enough for you. We are in site 5 and we are 40'.
Good luck, Janet
