Our DD tried a Watermelon Ice Cream recipe on us last night that she was planning to make for her DH's family reunion competition. She has been the winner the last two years, so her "reputation" is at stake. The watermelon ice cream recipe she made for us, was at best, NOT good -- not bad, but definitely not award-worthy!! Sooo, we are in search of unusual, yummy ice cream recipes. I KNOW you wonderful cooks won't let us down!!

Thanks,
Vickie

Foodnetworks "Diners, Drive-ins and Dives" had an ice cream special last night and they profiled a gelato specialty store and an ice cream store that had really unusual flavors. Doubt you could get recipes, but you might get some ideas. I know the ice cream shop was in New Orleans, not sure about the gelatto. They had flavors like blueberry mojito, saffron, lavendar honey, chocolate chipoltle, avocado cream, canoli, tiramisu. They even had apple pie and gingerbread, which had actual pieces of the baked goods blended in the ice cream mix before it was frozen. Lots of wacky flavors.

Or if she really likes the watermelon idea, what about a sorbet kind of frozen dessert instead of a milk based ice cream?

My buddy makes a home made avacado ice cream that he takes to all the potluck events. I can get the recipe if you'd like to see it.

I had some left over cherrypie filling last time, so I added it to a basic vanilla ice cream. Cherry pie ice cream.

Go to, Doc Wilson's ice cream, bagpipes, and airplanes, and hit search. There are several unusual and just plain delicious recipes. I have used several of them and they are outstanding.

my favorite flavor this month is coconut almond chocolate chip.
I used a custard-based recipe (cooked eggs/cream to make custard, chill, add whipping cream, coconut extract, churn, add coconut flakes, chopped toasted almonds, and coarsly chopped chocolate.

Big Red ice cream is a favorite in our family and our children ask for it for their birthdays.
1 3-liter Big Red soda (not available in some parts of the country)
1 cup frozen strawberries with sugar
1 can sweetened condensed milk
Mix, freeze and enjoy!!!

Cooking Light has a receipe for Pecan Pie Ice Cream. I'm not crazy about pecan pie, but love the ice cream, goes over excellent at our 4th of july parties.
