I found it on ebay and got it for 35 plus 15 shipping. Is there any converter out there that I don't need a battery with. I was just checking for a ground on the trailer and there isn't one anywhere I can find. So I am assumming that the battery is the main ground for the camper.

I just noticed that there is a switch on the front marked, Converter/Battery. I guess this invalidates my last post.

It looks like you're supposed to use the 120v AC ground as the 12V ground, which should be tied to the frame of the camper. Although the battery neg wire may be connected internally to the 120V ground, you can't be sure. I would connect the radio pos and memory wires to one of the 12v circuits (one of the blue wires), and connect the radio neg wire to the ground terminal on the converter.

I got a PD9260 on ebay for about $120 NEW a couple years ago, and it has very well regulated 12v output of up to 60 amps, with or without a battery. It's also an excellent three stage charger if you ever do get a battery, or bank of batteries. I use it to charge a bank of two 6v golf carts batteries. Excellent product. I can also completely disconnect my battery bank and it still works perfectly at 13.6 volts with any load, including radio and DVD player.

You don't want a converter, you want a power supply. Something like this: 12 volt Power supply on ebay

It should be filtered and regulated. If you have a CB or HAM radio store near you, they will carry what you want. A dedicated Stereo shop should have them as well.

Are you saying buy one on these power supplys just to run my stereo. And use my present converter to run everything else. Seems excessive to me. If thats the case I will just buy an electric stereo and run it off the 120 volt system. i did a search and there are a couple converters out there that will work with or without a battery. Going to my local rv dealer today to talk to them see if they can tell me whats wrong. I belong to pop up explorer forum and a lot of these people are putting car stereos in there campers and are running them off the converter. So I need to find out if it really is not having a battery with the converter I have.

Talked with local rv dealer. He said I do need a battery to stabilize the system. He also said the stereo should not be hooked to a circuit from the converter. He said to hook the radio to the battery lugs on the converter where the wires from the battery hook to the converter. The will give me constant voltage at the radio. Now the question is do I want to add a battery or buy an updated converter? Cost seems to be about the same till I buy a battery, wire it in, buy a box to put it in and install it. Converter I already have the wires there for it and don't need the battery. Only gonna use this camper maybe 4 or 5 times a yr anyway for nascar races.

Talk to the folks at Best Converter They are very knowledgeable and also very helpful.
They'll give you your best options for the radio and electrical system.
