I need to replace the exhaust on my 87 Allegro with a p-30 chassis 137 inch wheel base. I need to replace from the mufflers back. oe replacement is way to much for me right now. I am wondering if anybody has used after market mufflers and tail pipes. where did ya get them and approx. cost. Thanks in advance

Doug Thorley headers are popular with older motorhomes. The jet coated are better to help reduce heat. They can be a little costly. As far as muffler, I would go with something free flowing.

With your 3 speed tranny, you will run hotter than MH with a 4 speed.

You can save by having a 90 degree pipe to each side right after the muffler.

Search this site for "muffler" for some good posts.

Why would an engine run hotter with a 3 speed trans than a 4 speed trans?

Check the local muffler shops for a price.

jegs or summit raceing has headers and hd mufflers for MHs the big round ones that are free flowing i have a set ,and pipes you can order,my pipes are bent to come out in front of the rear duels,a muffler shop can make something special for you,at jegs the special high flow MH mufflers are $80 to $85 apiece depending on pipe size and muffler lenght there really good long lasting mufflers have a nice sound to them but there not a real quite muffler.

I had the P30, 454 Chevy years ago. When I replaced, I went to Dual exhaust and brought em out on each side in front of the rear wheels. Really helped the power & hill climbing.

Yup. Works good.

My preference is a turbo or straight-through muffler, but some other posters have done really good comparisons, so do a search. Turbos can be a little loud, but an H pipe is a quick and cheap way to gain a little torque and quieten it some.

I have hedman headers and dual free flow exhaust on my 90. The exhaust exits just in front of rear wheels.
