We were sleeping in our 1998 Holiday Rambler, then about four years old, 6:30 AM or so, half awake, half asleep, when I hear the distinct sound of water running in the bathroom. Not like the sink faucet running, but like when you are washing the car with a hose with a nozzle. I look beside me to make sure the wife person wasn't up and I wasn't dreaming when it hit me there was a pipe busted somewhere. I jumped up, put on some shorts and went out and turned the water off. The coach was plumbed for a washer/dryer and the hot water bibb ( behind a plywood cover) had decided to blow its O ring and start spewing water after four years. Only a few gallons were spewed but I hate to think about what it would have happened if it happened while we were gone all day.
Ever since, we turn our water off.
On the "favorite gadget thread" that is running here on the forum, somebody mentioned they plumbed up a electric solenoid valve to a wall switch so they can turn the water off at the door on the way out. I am going to do this one day. $25 on EBay.
Never. Really had not given it much thought. Would this apply to ever time you left the RV, or would it be for maybe all day. What about the 6 or 8 hours that you are asleep? A lot could happen during the night...
Would you turn it off to say, go to the pool for a couple of hours? Or go down the street to have lunch or dinner with a friend? Seems like I would be turning it off and on all day and at night.
Appreciate the tip. We're leaving in a few days for our next outing. I've never heard about doing this, but it sure makes a heck of a lot of sense. Thanks!
Without fail, every time. Plastic pipes, plastic fittings, plastic valves, plastic clamps, plastic fatigue, possible freeze damage that might "let loose," etc. Every time...
I have turned off the water to two trailers in the past that were gushing water out of just about everywhere. I also turn my water off if going away all day. Not just for a swim or something but all day yes I turn it off.
Same here. Unless I forget, when we leave the water is turned OFF be it the on board water pump if we are dry camping, or the spigot outside if we are hooked up to a water supply.

Always turn off the water at the outside water hook-up, or the water pump if dry camping, whenever leaving for the day, and have ever since starting to RV 20 years ago. Even at the stick house if gone all day long. Too many things can happen, and eventually will. Anyone who leaves their RV all day with the water supply left turned on is playing Russian Roulette with a wet camper.
