keep the suggestions coming...we're checking them all out on the internet...no, we don't have to end up in arizona... so any southern area will do.

Just wondering since everyone else was giving ideas in Arizonia. If you like fishing maybe Port Aransas or Rockport or even further south to South Padre Island.

Don't fish in TX any more. Visitior's license got more expensive than I like. Fish in Gulf Shores, AL. But, that's not quite far enough south.

Then I really think you should look at Palacios Tx, Several nice parks, on the water, walk to everywhere. Small town , but no movie theater, but they have a video store there. And downtown is downtown, just like the olden days.

Arizona- Benson or Ajo Ajo has a delightful town plaza and 2 GREAT Mexican resturants on the north side of town. Benson - has Butterfield's RV Park & they have their own observatory which is really neat to go up to at night. However, you do have several trains a night that come roaring through town!!

NM - Deming - neat little town but never seems to be warm enough for us in Jan & Feb.!! Maybe the elevation?!? Las Cruces may be too large for what your looking for but LaMesita just south is absolutely charming. Can't remember how close a rv park would be.

TX - Hill Country I fell in love with. Fredricksburg, Luckenbach(with Willie & Wayon!!) Boerne, Canyon Lake. Probably just about any of the small towns in the hill country between San Antonio & Austin. Great scenery and lots of wineries to visit!
Rockport & Port Aransas area & Padre Island, Galveston Island.

Enjoy your visit!

I agree with the posters that recommend Texas. You can find small towns all over Texas that are just as you described. It's like they say here in Texas "I wasn't born here, but I got here as fast as I could".

Don't forget Ron, when I mentioned Ajo, someone said it was just a wide spot in the road with nothing there, LOL. We like the town and it fits the OP specs to a T. There are 2700 full time residents that welcome the snowbirds with several nice RV parks in town, one right downtown and within walking/bicycling distance of everything, a small cafe that many of the locals meet every morning for coffee, etc. If we were to start spending the winters in AZ, this is one town we would give serious consideration.

Here's another vote for Texas. The Hill Country has many places that meets your description. We used to do the Yuma thing but since discovering Texas and particularly The Hill Country we have become winter Texans.

Take a look along state hwy 35 on the Texas Gulf coast from Freeport south to Corpus Cristi. Lots of small towns where people meet at the local restarant for coffee in the mornings, ride bicycles or golf carts or walk. There are 100's of RV/trailer parks of every description on salt water, lakes, in the trees, and most are fairly inexpensive. I suggest you come on down and try the 35 corridor out, you won't need reservations in most places.
Good Luck
Larry
