I have a camping trailer ( Worth $8,500 ) and I am buying a larger, new trailer ( $20K+ ) and I left a $3k deposit and I'm suppose to bring my trailer in with the rest of the money ( $9k+ ) on Thursday. Well, I just had a small accident with the awning. The awning is broke and now needs to be replaced. I'm more than willing to make a claim on it's insurance. Do you think the trailer dealership will have a problem with our deal?
I kinda look at it as the dealership will now get paid to put on a NEW awning and then be able to sell the trailer with a new awning instead of a 4 year old awning.
What do you think?
Thanks,
Josh
* I really need / want this deal to go through. Too much work to get this far and now a stupid 3 sec mistake can change it all. I'm sick to my stomach over this.

I would call the dealer and the insurance co. and get it taken care of. Doubt it's a deal breaker as long as it's taken care of.

best of luck. and congrats on the new TT

I've never been a dealer or worked at one but my guess is that they've probably heard a lot worse stories then that. Call your insurance co. and get them working on things and see what sort of timeframes they give you then let the dealer know. The Insurance company might be more than willing to work with the dealer directly to get it fixed since you'd probably end up bringing it to one anyway.

I sure wouldn't worry sick about it. What is the worse case scenario? You buy a new awning. But...that won't happen. If it is an insurable loss, the dealer will work with you. If not, you have bigger problems. He is a jerk and will will not work with you later when you need problems resolved.

I think you'll come out ahead by having it replaced. If you trade with the damage, you can expect to take a hit.

I'd ask the dealer before I involved insurance. A similar thing happened to me--when I told the salesman he said don't worry about it--they could fix it for practically nothing. He didn't change the deal or anything.

I agree with Earl E---tell the dealer and let them advise you what to do---it dont cost them squat to repair stuff and they plan on it and if it needs replaced and they are any size of dealership at all they probably have a old awning or at least the parts to fix yours for nothing--talk to them first

As a dealer, it really isn't a big deal. Happens more often than you might think. The dealer should verify the insurance information, collect the deductible, and complete the transaction.

As to those who think dealers get their work done for next to nothing, yeah right! Parts cost money and most employees who work on these things have a peculiar habit of wanting paid weekly. As far as keeping your mouth shut and not telling the dealer, there goes the theory that all dealers lie and all customers are paragons of virtue.

what's to worry? just chat with the dealer. after your insurance pays, he will have a 'better" unit to sell.
