I Need any information that may be of help on trying to figure out what is going on with my Backup monitor.

We purchased a new Motor home two years ago, that came equipped with a Audiovox Backup monitor. Its a black and white unit which is another question I will have after I get some advice on how to fix the current problem.

The monitor is made by Audiovox.
Audiovox / Voyager AOM561 5.6 in. LCD Monitor for the Visor.

What had happened is my wife backed the motor home out of the garage to get some stuff out of our RV building.

She backed the motor home approximately 60 feet and left it parked.

It was parked outside for about 4 or 5 hours in the direct sun. She had left the visor down and I think may have left the backup monitor on.

When I went to move it back into the RV building I noticed that the screen on the monitor had no picture. Just a white screen.

I have not been able to get the thing working again it just shows a white screen when I turn it on. I know she did not hit anything so it was not the camera. Somebody told me one of the wires may have come loose on the camera however I have a hard time with that since it was working when she parked the RV.

MY theory is that with the visor down the monitor back was in the full Sun and may have cooked the inners on the unit.

When I first obseveed it not working and put the vsior back up the back of the unit was pretty warm.

I would hope that these monitors are not that sensitive to heat but who knows .

Has anybody else had this problem and how did they correct it?

The other question is if I have to replace the monitor could i replace it with a color one rather then the black and white one we currently have? I would use the same camera if possible.

Any help would be appreciate or any advice.

You did nothing different than you would do driving your MH, so the backup monitor should not have been harmed. You just need to trouble shoot the monitor for the usual things like fuses or loose connectors. After about 30 minutes of looking for the most obvious faults I would call Audiovox. Their hardware can fail but I doubt it. Finding a simple and cheap fix is the case nine out of then times.

Did lots of trouble shooting but no luck.

When I called back to some of the dealers and the company that make the Audiovox, I found out this model is no more in stock and it would be cheaper to just replace it with a newer one. Now have to buy a newer model they don't make this model. The last one was made in 2005.
Pretty short life span right?

According to all I talked too it would cost more to repair the old one then get a new one? I have a hard time with that

Now were looking At $600 + for a new monitor which is not what I wanted to hear. I contacted my insurance company that Carry's the extended warranties an they told me I have to take it to an RV repair site that is certified in order to fix it. I mentioned all that needs to be down is to unplug the old one in and plug in the new one which I could purchases for about $400 rather then the $600 dollars by a RV dealer. Well you guessed it I tried to save them money but they did not want to do it.

Anyway if you ever have a problem with a monitor one sure way to check at least that particular model is to push the brightness button or the contract buttons down and hold it until you see a black line appear below at the lower portion of the screen screen.

Their should be a small black line that should show up in the bottom of the screen that progress or declines on how much lightness your contrast you want on the screen. If this does not show any lines your more than likely have a bad monitor.

I hope this helps others that may run into this problem.

You can get an idea of replacement monitors available at http://rvcams.com/. See what they've got for you; it's at least a learning experience.
