2003 Silverado 2500HD with Duramax/Allison.

Going to be towing right at my GCVW and would like a little more SAFE power. I have tried the Hypertec, but it would not load due to interfence, so I had to send it back. I have sence heard that PPE has the best tunes, and it will also defuel during shifts. Can somebody recommend another programer in the same $400-500 price range that has safety features included? Thanks,

Mav

I know that there will be a lot who will disagree but you don't need a programmer. The Dmax has more than enough power to handle all your towing needs. The programmer ads, what you to believe that the D-Max, Powerstroke and Cummins are just not powerful enough. That is not the case.

Having read many forum threads about programmers, I've come to the conclusion that while they will give you more power, it's done at a cost. They will overtorque your Allison, burn more fuel and reduce the engine's life span.

Do yourself a favour and save the money for a nice extra cost option on the new trailer that you intend to buy.

While I'm sure the DmaX has the power to tow it. I will find out how well tomorrow. But a programmer will create more power at average tow speeds which will help the motor maintain a more constant pace, therefor increasing mileage. And they are fun with the trailer isn't on there.

I will be putting exhaust, EGT and boost guages on as well.

Programmers will also create more heat for the motor and transmission thereby creating the possibility of massive engine failures. Think melted pistons, burned valves, seized turbos. Without adding gages and being really careful things can get expensive. Keep it stock and keep the warranty valid.

No warranty. It's an '03, and most "quality" programmers and exhaust setups actually decrease your EGTs. Does anyone have anything positive to say? Or are we all negetive today?

My 2005 Dodge Cummins Turbo Diesel has all the power I really need, 325 HP and 610 Ft Lbs torque. Works at my house. Save your $$$ and get a Cummins.JMHO It'll also smoke the tires quite easily.

yes I have something positive to say, since you came here looking for advice, you need to by a bigger truck, you yourself said to safely tow.
just trying to save you some some guilt, just think of something happens because you were not safe, you obviously feel your vehicle is underpowered and therefore not safe.

Kenny, I was asking which programmer people would get. Not a bunch of answers saying I am stupid. I have been researching this benifits and dissadvantages of programmers for over 15 months now, and the benifits far outway the negatives.

The 03 Duramax is rated at 300hp/520tq, and have been said to be underated. But the LB7 has been said to handle the most upgrades of the bunch. And the Allison 100 is rock solid up to 390-400hp with tq numbers quite a bit higher. I am only looking for a little more tq to bump me up to compete with the newer Duramax's and Cummins.

My dream rig is a '06 Mega cab dually or a '08 LMM Duramax dually.

Well the best SAFE power is probably banks but for the price you speak of I doubht you will be able to find something. Most of these units are in the range of 700-900 plus you will most likely have to change your exaust.Other types are EFI-live and PPE,but anything over 90 hp and you can limp your ALLi-which isnt good.
Try these sites out they are packed with information you are looking for" Diesel place, Diesel Towing Resource,Dmax Central.

Thanks Jim. Yeah, I have been a member of diesel place and the duramax forums since I bought the truck. Very good info about power and programmers. And limping the Alli is bad. Good thing ATS is just up the road.

I know what all the towers say on those sites, I wanted to see what they would say on here. Not looking good though.
