Gotta do the 12 step thing, maannnn...
My name is Tex, and I am a HP/Torq-aholic. Been stock for 3 years now. The way I see it, the money I save I just put into the kid's college funds.
Still, there are nights that I gets the blood-burn, hot as an out of control EG temp. Can't sleep, heart pounds... Wrenches, programmers, 5 inch exhausts haunt my thoughts.
I call my 12 step friends for help. Takes a week or two. But when they talk me down I can be satisfied with just 350 HP, 625 ftlbs of torq.

Just not true imho. I thought the same once...got the Predator...and quickly saw how limited it was. I got EFI Live, read and copied all of the Predator tuning and couldn't believe the calibrations Predator didn't change. You can get EFI from Nick at www.duramaxtuner.com and he'll hook you up with his tune library where you'll have access to dozens of tunes. You can flash anyone of these tunes into your truck faster than a handheld programmer. There is also a 2 and/or 5 position switchable tuning for your truck. Pick your 5 favorite tunes and have them always available at the turn of a switch.
I'm seeing 21 mpg in my truck (sig) and my brother is seeing 20+ in his 2007.5 Cummins with Edge Attitude with 5" exhaust from the turbo back.
Good luck in your hunt.

Yea I wish I could switch tunes that easy but they don't make the switch for my year truck. BUT>>> soon you will be able to put your tunes on a SD card and have them in the V2, so at that point no lap top needed to switch and then you can have as many tunes as you want ready as long as you get a big enough SD card.

Because we can. These non-gearhead guys just don't get it. Go get another frothy $6 coffee with some minty flavor in it.
It has NOTHING to do with NEED. It's all about WANT.

I just got an email from my friend with the 03 D/A. He said "the Predator 65 hp made a h@ll of a difference towing and egt hit 1275". They don't recommend towing on the 85 hp, so he didn't try it. Now he wants to find out if his truck will beat his wifes Speed 3! Craig
I bought a used 03 D/A CC 4x4 from a GM dealer, had tons of power, but tripped a code when I pulled my 5th wheel. 5 trips to the dealer and 2 months later Finally figured it had been programmed most likely EFI live ,ahsome power, they cleared the ecu and set to stock.
I but in an airaid intake& turbo back 4" exhaust which helped nicely, maintained speed and power great through the rockymountains in BC.
I bought a used banks six gun which worked but one day shut my truck down, so out it came.
The reseach I've done suggest this, Banks is the safeist but also the most $$$, Egde is good but is prone to problems, as are most of the other programmers I have come conclued JMHO, There are lots of great tune items for the D/A but for me I want something 100% reliable
SAFE & TROUBLE FREE.
Some shops offer free trial downloads to see if you like it...
In the price range you state I would say the Banks Bullet would be reasonable, but would for sure add an intake system and exhaust for sure, some would say gagues but I think the bullet incls these functions.
I would expect you'll end up at around $1000.00 when the black smoke clears.
My brother in law just dropped off a Bully dog Triple power pup which I'll HAVE to download and try just to be pollite to him!!
Good luck
You can get a EfiLive V1 from Socaldiesel.com for $549. It will work on all the Duramax engines up to the 06 model, then you need the V2 which is around $750. There are tons of tunes that you can share....I have a couple of tow tunes for the LB7 like you have, that I'd be willing to turn you on to for free. They also have a tune library over at the dieselplace.com, and you can freely download and try tunes out there.
They have a very good support group and will answer any questions you might have.
Also, check out the Aeroforce Scan gauge. Several parameters that you can read for the Allison/Duramax combo. And can read and clear codes too.
