Planning trip to Alaska in 2009. Have 29' Class C Motor Home and Honda Accord toad. Would I be able to maneuver the Motor Home to every place I might like to see or would I be much happier bring the toad to be able to see the out of the way places. Total trip will be about 3 months.
Although physically you might be able to get the class c just about anywhere you might want to go, the distances up here are huge and you will be much happier touring in the Accord.
Enjoy, it's something else!

Bring the toad, especially if you intend to boondock, or do any sight seeing in the larger cities. Just easier to get around. We've also found that in some of the smaller towns like Valdez a bicycle or even walking works very well. Although Alaska is a very large state, getting around is very easy, and a lot of people don't always use established campgrounds. Running into town for a few groceries, get propane, or to get the wash done is much easier with the toad.
If you want a super fishing experience, bring your gear. Salmon season runs just about all summer someplace, and halibut, rockfish, dollies, lake trout and others make it a fisherman's or fisherwoman's paradise.
We've been up the last two years and will go again in 2009. It's that kind of a place.

There are some gravel roads that run off the main routes that are alot of fun to explore. One in Valdez was literally blocked by a landslide, but 4w-drive vehicles over a period of time had created a lane right over the top of the slide. On the far side were several beautiful waterfalls. Well worth the adventerous drive. Take your toad, you won't regret it.
For what it's worth, we just came back from a 2 month trip to Alaska and back via Glacier & Banff. The MH was driven 8000+ miles and the toad just short of 1300 miles.
We were glad to have the toad when we stayed in one spot for several days and wished it wasn't there when climbing some of the 9% grades. However, if we ever make the trip again, it will be with a toad.

If we hadn't had the toad with us when we blew the engine on our MH south of Fairbanks, we would have really been in a hum. It wasn't needed on the way to Alaska very much, but once there, the day trips in the toad are very nice.
