I'd suggest welding, since on most installations, it's under the living area. I'm probably being an old fuddy-duddy about this, but I trust a weld to contain gasses better, and to not come loose. Admittedly, there's normally almost zero back pressure in this area, but if you use a Genturi or similar, or a SuperTrapp, that changes a bit.

I understand the SuperTrapp causing some possible increase in back pressure.
I didn't think the Gen-turi would. The Gen-turi stack is very wide. And there is a pretty large open area where air is sucked up the pipe, carrying the exhaust with it. I may be wrong though.

Actually, I don't blame 'em. But the resonator under discussion _is_ an Onan part, for the 2.8 & 4.0 Micro series. Mine's welded in, and the 'local' Onan / Cummins shop has seen it.
As for my SuperTrapp, I'll unclamp & remove it before going in for a claim under what little warranty remains on my 2.8 (3rd yr., major components only). Would I cheat? Dam'betcha. My Onan failed majorly at 8 hours from new, took over two hot-weather months to get fixed, cost me $225 & a heckuva lot of time and gas. Onan only made good on the initial failure, none of the loss of use or gas. They didn't even extend my warranty. When a later trip was curtailed due to a related failure, they fixed it, but again it was my time & gas. So they can go straight to y'all-know-where. I figure they're into me for at least $600 out-of-pocket. Nope, I'm _not_ a happy customer.

When I was at the factory I asked Jeff, (the owner of Rt) and Jim, (the Pres.) about offering the Onan resonator as an option, or a standard feature. They said Onan doesn't want to put them on, or want them to install them because the resonator lowers the power of the gen-set, and they don't want to be responsible if some owners have a problem starting their a/c units. I said, I have never had that problem, and that I have heard no reports of hard starting issues after the resonator was installed. I guess time will tell if they decide to offer it as an option, but the feeling I got was it's not going to happen.
well, I don't have it yet, as I just spent $$$ getting my backup camera installed at Camping World last weekend. (THere was no way to order it and pick it up by then, so I'm waiting for a bit)
However, warranty is not an issue for me, as my Roadtrek is 11 years old.
So, what is your recommendation?
Resonator plus GenTuri
or
Resonator plus SuperTrapp - then worry about GenTuri later? I'm unclear as to whether the superTrapp is something that stays on, or that you attach when using it and parked, as the GenTuri???
I will be ordering it soon. Ya know, I just can't imagine that the previous owners used it much - it is so incredibly loud - I wouldn't even want to park it in a cemetery for fear of waking the ...you know. !!!
I appreciate your input, thanks,

Malu, If it was me.... .... I'd put the resonator on and try it. Then take one of two routes. If you _have_ to have a generator stack because it's a requirement of the events you attend, then get one. Otherwise, wait a bit; the superTrapp is $$$. It's something you'd slip on and off as needed (as is the Genturi), using a muffler clamp (lightly tightened) or a hose clamp. Mine's a bit different, since the Onan exhaust is under the rear bumper, up high. I consider the ST permanent, but would remove it for serious off-roading. You might decide you don't need either one.
Rodger, as a data point to share with whoever, I started my '02 Chevy RT's A/C at ~6500' with the resonator, just as a trial. And that's with the altitude screw set at 2500'. This was in the parking lot at NC's Mt. Mitchell SP. I use the microwave with the 9K Btu A/C in the Tiger, with much more 'added' backpressure (ST). I think I'll continue to believe that RT or Onan is avoiding either cost or liability issues .
I didn't get the feeling it was cost with Roadtrek, but they were going with Onan's recommendation. Roadtrek may consider adding it in the future. I'm sure it's one of those things that will have to be tested severely.
Well - I decided to install one of these resonators on our RT (2800 Onan Microlite). Specs say that it mates to a "standard 1 1/2 inch OD Onan tailpipe" - I measure mine and it is 1 1/4 OD. Did any of you who have made this installation encounter the same? Wonder if an appropriate weld can be made between resonator and tailpipe under this circumstance. Besides asking for your help - I will also ask the muffler shop who said they would do the installation if I acquired the part. Thanks for the help Jan and Jean in Colorado - 07 RT 210P

.....
Unless it's changed since I bought my last one 2.5 yrs ago, it's a nice slip fit onto the outside of the 1 1/4" pipe. I think maybe the 4.0 uses 1.5" pipe, and would be a butt-weld. AIUI, the same resonator is used for both the 2.8 and 4.0 (and the 2.5 & 3.6 LP's).
