I have a question on this park. We have stayed at many not this one yet due to the crowds in the summer. After staying at Lake Corpus Christi SP on 9/13 will be heading back up to Midland on 9/17. At one point I decided on Inks Lake SP but realized Garner is more on the road home somewhat. It has been years that we have driven around the park and at the time we had no TT. I assume less people at this time of year. Looking at the parks website on size of sites and New Garner/Old Garner what would be best for a 31'TT. Some of the site info says shade, little shade and 30'driveway. From what I was told before by a park worker that is the length of your camper not including the truck. Are any of the sites somewhat close to the river? I would call the park, but I get better answers from the forums campers.

We haven't stayed at Garner before but have heard it can get crowded. If you don't know, school doesn't start around here (we're in Texas, too) until Aug 25th, so it still may be a little crowded before school starts. Inks Lake SP is pretty big and there are sights right there on the water...or if not, really close. Most of those are back in sights and you'd definitely want to drive down and see the sights before settling on one. Good luck and have fun!

A private campground over in Campwood named Rocky River Resort was just as much fun and less crowded the last time I was over there. Worth checking out.

Garner State Park is one of the most beautiful places I've been too! The Frio River is a wonderful place to spend a few days. You can go on a float trip or just hang out by the park. The park is really crowded on weekends - mostly with day use people. You can just float down the river and get away from them. We like to float down to the bridge and walk back up the road. You will want to stay in the New Section. I don't think you can reserve a specific site at a Texas State Park - it's first come, first serve.

PS - Inks Lake is another wonderful park! You should try to see both!

I've been to both and they are nice. I like Garner because of the Frio river and there are sites that are very close to the water. We stayed at the old side and like it better than the new side. There's a basketball court near by with the summer dances on the old side of the park and lots of shaded sites, the sites are roomy as well. Swimming in the river is great and the water is very clear and cool so you come out refreshed and don't feel like you need a shower right away. We like Garner very much but make sure you have everything you need becuase the nearest store is not close but there is an RV park right across the river that has a nice store that we would shop in if we needed any thing. Inks lake has fewer trees and is right on the lake lots of RVers have boats there and spend there time on the water.

There is a great RV park we stay at across the river from the state park called Parkview. It has great veiws of the park if you can get a river front spot. The non summer rates start after labor day. I would stay for sometime if you can there is a lot to see around there.
