It takes several thousand miles and an accurate means of checking fuel usage to get an accurate fuel usage average. Most all manufacturers consider tank fill and refill completely unreliable on Motor homes due to the large fuel tanks and variables that can vary each fill up. No MH owner can give you accurate fuel usage mileage. Its a guess with a plus or minus 25% error at best.
Cummins has a complete manual on this available on line. Most factors pertain to Gas engines also. There are several factors, such as tire pressure that can drag down your mileage. Front airodynamic design is another. Gearing is also important. Differential ratio and Transmission gearing are big factors.

Take your emergency brake off ---If it is roaring like a beast and you got it floored it's a 460----Our 95 Bounder got around 5-6 mpg--and just what noRVtoheaven said above, once you add up the insurance and upkeep and repairs and cost of gas a Class A may not be the best choice for recreational camping or RVing--thats why we sold ours and dropped back to a TT so we get 10-12 mpg and upkeep is alot less and very little insurance so we have more money for gas and travels

07 Tundra SR5 4.7

07 Civic for cheap gas

Don't forget prices of hotel accomodations are going up as well. As are plane fairs and every other travel related expense. Trust me I am not happy filling up my motor home but if you consider all of the costs involved in travel its not that much out of line. Especially if you can boon dock rather then pay the KOA fees. I get reasonable fuel mileage (about 10). My last trip I figure I spent $1000 for fuel but slept in the ole girl 12 nights. So what's the big deal. If you like to drive and like the RV life go for it. If you like motels and hotels (and I admit there is nothing wrong with a nice motel) do it. But I can't see any reason to and give it up if you enjoy it. Now if I was getting 5 rather then 10 mpg I might have to consider because that pretty much doubles the price of admission. Doesn't it?

2cyber71, you are correct. V10 was late 98 and most were billed as 1999. I am sure he has a 460. Probably with a 3 speed tranny. I had one, awful. Also had a 99 V10, got 7.5 mpg. Should look at his title.

Also, check your speedometer against a GPS.. there can be a considerable amount of difference between your actual speed and indicated speed... some differences are as much as 15%....

It is a 3 speed with over drive. Have you ever looked at an AZ title? Not very informative.

Our F53 / V10 routinely reports a 7.0 - 8.5 mpg. Towing or not... AC on or not.. BUT running the Genny with roof air drops the mpg considerably. We run between 60 - 65 depending on traffic. Our best was in 06 crossing KS. No AC or Genny. We were averageing about 9.0.
I keep the tire pressure up and the BIG TOE on..
