Lookig for input and advice. I am considering creating a rv camp site (with electric, sewer and water hookups) on my water front cottage rental property in Bar Harbor, Maine. I am wondering if there would be any interest in someone helping out with cleaning cottages in exchange for use of the camp site? If so, how many hours of work per week could I expect in exchange for the site? Where should I advertize? Am a little worried about electrial use. Do workampers expect unlimited free electricity? Or, would it be reasonable to expect the campers to pay for their electrical use?
We are not full time yet, but Maine is definately on our "to do" list in the next year or 2.
We'll keep track of your requirement for the future.
Twenty hours is about the average we read about, with full hookups.
You are worried about the workamper electric usage? Just remember, you get what you pay for.
If you want to go real cheap, might as well forget the hookups and hire illegals.
If you were to hire summer help, require them to work 20 hours per week and pay them minimum wage it would cost you $580...plus workmans comp insurance. I think a months electric bill for an RV would be far cheaper than that! I rent a site that includes water sewer & electric for $440 per month, so the electric can't be that expensive.
Oh, and you will have a very hard time filling this position if you have the worker pay his own electric bill, unless of course you are paying them hourly wages so they can pay the electric bill. Remember, if you want good help you will have to make the position at least somewhat attractive to them.
And in answer to the question of where to post the job listing, I don't think you need to look any further, you'll find plenty of applicants right here in the Workamping section.

Some CGs put a limit on electric use, which is normally close to what a 2/2 house in the area uses. Here our normal electric bill is $20-30/month and the CG next door caps the electric at $40/mo for their workampers.

A campground on Mt Desert pays minimum wage for every hour worked, free space, free electric, free propane, at least one lobster dinner for the "help", 20 hours a week minimum (required) and tries to give couples the same three days off each week.
