Interesting article, but I think the author blew it big time with this line:

Phelps' size 14 feet and 6'3" arm span might have something to do with his speed.

I thought Phelps was 6'4" and his arm spread (wing span ) was 6'7".Also he can bend his feet 15 degree's more then normal.

When you are under water it is easier to streamline your body coming off the turn. Streamlining lowers resistance. Many teams teach the dolphin kick.

Gee, and here I thought it was the suit he wears, which is state of the art,
expensive, and takes 20 minutes to put on.
It's been on the news, but then that might be too factual

The suit is a big reason but they had those last Olympics. Swimmers are starting to use the Dolphin kick more and the pool in China is a very fast pool. It was constructed to reduce turbulence from the swimmers which will slow them down.

And Phelps goes w/ only the Speedo brief, not the top part some of them use (anti drag suits).
I like the guy w/ the shaved head... no drag there.
