Have an 07 2500 D/A Silverado HD Classic pulling a 10K 5er. Today in California the temp got up to 103 degrees on rte 20 over hills to Williams. The tranny temp nudged past 200 and the tranny was whining and moaning intermittently uphill which I never heard in 20K miles. Most of my towing has been in relatively cool temps.
Checked the dip stick per instructions cold and hot. Cold was in the zone but hot was just at the lower limit, which according to the manual is 1 qt. down. I doubt this would cause the problem & intend to add oil.
Anyone have experience with this? I'm in Cal. heading for NY with probably some serious climbs so should I have a dealer check it out?

I am thinking you were not hearing the tranny, but the fan.

Normal stuff.

Are you sure that the moaning and whining noise wasn't the clutch fan and the turbo working harder? 200 isn't that warm for the allison, did the fluid still look red?

Can't help with the trans, but could you send some of that cool air up here?

200 sounds pretty normal for towing in the heat. I'm ALSO betting it was the fan or the clutches driving it. 10,000 lb. is also a pretty light load so shouldn't be putting much stress on the transmission.

As stated by others....200 degrees seems in the "normal" range.
