We had friends camp at our place last weekend and decided to make some homemade pizzas over the campfire!
One of our friends said she'd make the dough and it was AWESOME! I left the recipe at the store, so I'll give you the pics now and add the recipe tomorrow! (Sorry about that!)
We made a big pizza and then a bunch of individual pizzas (all in cast iron). Here's our big pizza:

All our pizzas cooking:

The big pizza -- ready to eat!

The individual pizzas all ready to eat!

This was the first time we cooked pizza over the campfire and they turned out GREAT!

Yum; homemade pizza!
While we wait for Julie's recipe, here is the one I use right now. It's very easy and quick and if you have sauce and toppings all ready to go, you can use it immediately, without the preliminary rising; very gratifying for hungry kids!
(This is the ONLY trick to yeast dough: always be sure that the water you use for the yeast is very warm, NOT hot, or it will kill the yeast. Very warm means, almost uncomfortable to the skin but not enough to burn you.)

Here's the recipe for the pizza dough!
2-1/4 tsp. active dry yeast
2 Tbsp. butter or margarine
1 cup warm water (105-115 degrees)
1 Tbsp. sugar
1 tsp. salt
1 Tbsp. vegetable oil
2-1/2 cups all purpose flour
Dissolve yeast in warm water. Add butter and sugar to warm water. Stir in salt and flour. Form into a ball and put in bowl. Coat with vegetable oil and cover. Let rise for 45 minutes.
For thick crust, pat out in a 12" pizza pan. For thin crust, divide dough in half and press out in two 12" pizza pans. Add sauce and toppings. Bake at 425 degrees for 15 minutes.

Julie, you are such a tease! The grandkids love home made pizza. Might have to be cooked in the oven until I decide I can venture out camping again, but I am sure gonna give your crust recipe a try. Man, those look so yummy!!!!!

Jackie, you're so sweet! We use our skookies and cast iron pizza pan in the oven all the time. This was the first time we tried them over the campfire -- and that was done in the back yard! No need to wait to go camping if you can have a fire at home.
Take care, dear. You're in our prayers. Maybe some day you can come and visit us in Wisconsin. We'd love to have you!
