I know what ya mean. I paid $4.77/gal here in CA when we left on our cross country trip. Averaged a little above $4/gal the entire trip. Yesterday I paid $3.99/gal........ Oh well, at least it's coming DOWN!!!

I actually read the article. It starts out "drop of 800,000 barrels per day" but by paragraph 7 it becomes
"U.S. daily oil use fell by a slight 7,000 barrels last year and is forecast to decline by 480,000 barrels this year and then by another 120,000 barrels next year."

Only $3.90? Well. I find it interesting that after fuel prices go nutzoid that we are very happy and content that they have come down 20 cents a gallon or so. Next year we will be happy that fuel prices finally came down to $4.50 a gallon. And the beat goes on............
Why do people pay to go up tall buildings and then put money in binoculars to look at things on the ground?
I agree with "gasbag" - that is exactly how the "powers that be" are hoping you will feel about the cost of gas/fuel - i.e., so lucky and pleased to have what "seems like" a newly discounted price, when in truth - it is still up significantly from what it was a year ago and it is still eating a giant hole in your budget.
My God, can't you two see a little sarcasm in my comment?
A month ago I purchased 107 gallons for my truck and paid $4.69 in Kingman, AZ., where a couple of stations were pushing the $5.00/gallon number. I call an $.80 a gallon drop in about 30 days a good start.
Sarcasm is sometimes hard to see in a post, but you are right, the drop in price is a good start. My earlier post about the Hummer was supposed to be sarcastic too - so point well taken - guess that is why they have the emoticons to use. Sorry!

Looks like the "Big Oil" bashing is about to start up. Too many people have been conditioned to bash any company that is big and makes money. You know, Big Wal-Mart, Big Pharmacuticals, Big Banking, Big Farming, etc. Of course, all of them provide things that are essential to our lives. How come I never hear of Big Hollywood where a single picture can make hundreds of millions of dollars in profit? How about Bill Clinton who makes 5+ million dollars for EACH speech he makes? How about an actor that makes 50 million dollars for just two months work?
And the phrase "addicted to oil" is just sooooo incorrect. We are addicted to oil like we are addicted to the blood in our bodies. It is needed for basically everything. Look around your home. Virtully everything in it is either made of oil, with oil by-products, as a power source to mfg it, and of course, to deliver it. If oil were to go away, we would have to revert back to a wood-based economy where everything is made of wood, wood is used for a power source and for heating. And either horses or your two feet would provide transportation because without oil, none of that "new technology just around the corner" will ever happen. Also, none of that new technology is viable and won't be in most of our lifetimes.
And how do you think your food is produced and gotten into your home? What do you think those tractors and delivery trucks run on? I am sorry, but sunlight, batteries or windmills just will never do those jobs. Since it takes more than a gallon of oil fuel to produce a gallon of ethanol, that is not a viable fuel source either.
Every country in the world that has oil is drilling for it but us. We even have foreign governments that will soon be drilling off our coast in the ocean (near Cuba, less than ninety miles from Florida). The real bad guy here is the US Congress for banning almost all productive oil drilling and refining on US territory under the auspices of "environmental protection." That's right, "Big Government."
But then who am I to complain? More than half the people in this country are voting for the people who are causing this from their lofty seats in Congress, so it must be what they want. I am obviously in the minority with my opinions.
