Hi
I am sure this has been addressed before but Search comes up empty.
While driving down I40W in I decided to get off and adjust something minor. We pulled off and did the adjustment and then started to drive off. There was a crunch! The RR leveler had extended and was around an inch from hitting the road. Very scary! It would not retract even with lubrication and we did not trust it anyway. After prying it into its raised position we watched it and it began to creep down. We bound it to the frame with baling wire and added a 2000 lb test chain as a safety. We had been under way for around 2 hours when it happened. Now we are safe but cannot use the jacks. We gotta have them since the DW's dainty tread shakes the entire unit without them! Nothing in the instructions and no answer from HWH after 5. Will try again in the AM. Has anyone else had this problem? The springs are original. I replaced them on two other jacks due to failure/ weakness but not these. Should they not stay up forever unless actuated even without springs? No fluids leaking. Others work fine. Last time I used them there was a vibration from the system somewhere that stoped when they were extended. Is there a check valve for each? All of the jacks lower normally but this one does not raise at all and slowly lowers by itself. We could really use the advice. We only get WI FI every few days but we will have it until tomorrow am Pacific Time and will hit a Starbucks later in the day.

Make, year and model may help.

If two springs have already gone I would wonder about the other two. I don't know if they should stay retracted without the spring.

When you replaced the two springs did the jack stay retracted while you were working on it?

Hi
Good question. Yes they did, in fact one of them stayed up after the spring broke for a month or so. The system is a WHW 310 series from 2001 with the straight jacks. They are on a Coachmen Mirada 2002 31' Class A

Are you using the correct stow procedure? START ENGINE, turn on HWH panel. Hit STOW.

MOST CRITICALLY, DO NOTHING ELSE.

The system will continue to bleed fluid from jacks to reservoir for several minutes and then automatically turn itself off.

If one turns off the system after jacks show stowed, it will trap fluid in the lines that when heated driving over a hot road can cause jacks to deploy.

And indeed HWH does great over-the-phone diagnostic help.

Call HWH, their tech support is awesome. Sounds like an internal leak in the jack itself, but do not understand why the springs do not hold it up. These jacks are "powered down" and retract via spring tension and fluid release back to resovoir.

You might want to check the fluid level in the reservoir. We had a jack drop down on our previous motorhome and found the fluid level was low. Topped it off and things worked fine.

H i
Thanks guys. All good answers. Will call HWH this am. Will check fluid this AM does anyone know I look to check it(I am embarrassed to admit I never checked it cause I never found it?!) Because the other rear jack never quite goes to the top I have always shut the system off when the jacks all come up. Has not been a problem till now but makes sense. I do that right and see if it is better. I'll do all these things before messing
with anything else.
Thanks
ROb
BTW RT 66 is great and most of it is in better shape than I40. Headed for the Grand Canyon Caverns today.

On our coach the reservoir was in front between the frame rails just behind the hood. It was a square box with hydraulic lines coming out of it. It should have a cap on top with a built in dipstick. Be sure to use the proper fluid if it does need topping off (check your HWH manual).

Hi
No. No alarm. System was off so possibly alarm not on. I have never heard a sound from it actually.
