Our 2008 Passport 240qs has a greater width between the tires than most trailers do. To measure from front to back tire at the smallest distance it's 16". I know that there are other Keystone products out there with this issue. My question is....I would like to use scissor chocks between the wheels, but I haven't found any that extend wide enough. Anyone know of any good ones?

You can make your own. Do a search. That's what I did. I don't have a Keystone though.

Wow, 16" is pretty wide spacing for a scissor type chock. Something like this might work for you, BAL locking chock. They're not the scissor type though. These claim they expand to 22 1/2 inches but install at the widest tire clearance so they might not extend far enough for your TT.

You might be able to make some like a previous poster mentioned, however you would probably need 2 threaded rods per chock due to the wide spacing. Here is a link to some plans for the home made kind: Home made chocks

16" is really a lot and in my experience somewhat unusual. I would bet that you are going to have to go with wedge on the ground chocks for your set up. Possibly you could make your own, but that too could be difficult given the spacing.

GOSH, I just realized that I have been absolutely no help at all!!...

extended tire spacing is good if they did it for stability reasons...

if they did it to lighten the chassis even more by spreading the weight over a larger area, it may not be so good...

anybody know the official reason for it...

They say it is to add stability to the TT. the idea is the farther apart the spacing the more stable the towing will be.

I have seen homemade chocks made out of 4X4`s with a threaded rod through both. the ends are cut at an angle to fit tight against the wheel.

It's to add stability...I'll tell you we get a much nicer ride out of our Passport than we did our Antiqua. Not sure it's the tire spacing, but not sure it isn't.

Thanks Vader..we had those with the antigua..wont work on the new trailer...the space between the tires is much to far apart. Still looking for a good scissor chock option..I just prefer them....esp. when you have to use your levelers...easier to get a scissor chock in.

I've got the same problem and havent' found a commercial option yet. I've been working on the homemade ones but having problems with that because of the bar that goes up between the tires to the bottom of the TT.

I've settled so far with the little plastic chocks and just making sure we drive up onto them and slip the second one behind it and settling down into it. Since we started doing that little drive up onto the front one, we have had minimal if any motion. And no-one has stolen our chocks again

Same here with our Keystone FreedomLite 281RL (the same as the Passport 285RL). We just completed a 5,000 mile trip throughout the west and southwest, and the stability of the spread axles was great (although I'm sure a good hitch and sway control helped as well)! When we first got the TT I had the same question wheel chocks and spread axle designs. My search found nothing commercially available, and BAL indicated that there are no plans in the works to make them because there isn't enough of a market for them.
